And another day of crazy in Michigan, Trump firing those that don’t pay fealty to him, Red states in crisis, weddings, curfews, investigations, attempted coups, the ‘savior’ of change, withdrawing troops, LSU, Dolly Parton and a whole lot more comes to a close:

“Trump has figured out how to weaponize the machinery of government post-election. This is something that happens in a banana republic, not George Washington’s republic.” -- Dan Eberhart

Meanwhile in Michigan:

GOP members of Wayne County Board of Canvassers vote against certifying election results. On Tuesday, the two Republican members of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers cast an unprecedented vote against certifying the county's November election results for the county's 43 jurisdictions, including Detroit, Michigan's largest voting jurisdiction...Tuesday was the final day the board could certify the county's election results. Having failed its responsibility to certify the results, the board is now required to immediately deliver to the secretary of the Board of State Canvassers all election records so the state board can certify the results. Under state law, the board must certify the results within 10 days of receiving the records from the board of canvassers. -- And a Trump lawyer says the state legislators should illegally nullify the will of voters. (She meant ‘legislature’ but you know...whatever.)

Michigan's largest county certifies election results after Republicans earlier blocked certification. A bipartisan panel in Michigan's largest county unanimously certified its presidential results on Tuesday night, a stunning reversal hours after Republicans had temporarily blocked certification based on dubious claims of voting irregularities in Detroit.

“You shouldn’t be nervous about the Wayne County bullshit, but you should be fucking enraged. Republican politicians in DC and across the country are openly trying to help Trump steal this election, and there’s no reason to think they won’t try it again and again.” -- John Favreau

“The problem with the coup attempt (and Republicans’ refusal to denounce it) is not that it’s going to *succeed* this time; it’s that it’s going to normalize all kinds of anti-democratic behavior that will make it easier to pull off in the future — especially in a closer election.” -- Steve Vladeck

CISA Director Chris Krebs Fired After Trying To Correct Voter Fraud Disinformation. Trump, in two misleading tweets about the security of the U.S. election, said Krebs' termination was "effective immediately." -- The dictator wannabe makes another move. Krebs’ only crime appears to be that he told the truth to Donald Trump.

Georgia Secretary of State Raffensperger says Sen. Graham asked him about tossing ballots.

Lindsey Graham says he's spoken with multiple battleground state officials about ballot counting. Asked in what capacity he was making these calls, Graham said he was making the calls “as a United States senator who is worried about the integrity of the election process nationally, when it comes to vote by mail.” — Mmm hmm.

Biden hopes to avoid divisive Trump investigations, preferring unity. President-elect Joe Biden has privately told advisers that he doesn't want his presidency to be consumed by investigations of his predecessor, according to five people familiar with the discussions, despite pressure from some Democrats who want inquiries into President Donald Trump, his policies and members of his administration.

If it were happening in Turkey, we’d call Trump’s actions an attempted coup. President Trump’s refusal to concede to his successful challenger is “giving great comfort” to “authoritarian regimes” around the world, said Joe Biden’s biographer on CNN. “This is a source of delight [for them] … ” Turkey, my country, falls into that category of authoritarian regimes. But I can tell you that what is happening in the US is a source of horror, not delight, for those on the ground. We know the signs of when a political crisis becomes a de facto coup – so here’s a word of warning...It is happening in several corners all at once: Mike Pompeo’s smirk – the signature facial expression of “illiberal democracies” – as he promises a “smooth transition to the second Trump administration”; the sudden changes of cadre in the Pentagon; the calculated silence of Republican senators; Trump’s invocation of the “people” and the “movement”, hinting at a popular power that might carry him further than his opponents believe. Those who are analysing his behaviour in terms of psychology, referring to his famous allergy to losing, must be reminded: coups don’t always begin with a dramatic Reichstag fire, but through obscure and elusive machinations. Since the Americans might not know about our countries as much as we do about theirs, we can tell them that it has happened just like this here too – we trusted the institutions and were certain the leader wouldn’t dare.

Trump is "seriously" considering a 2024 bid for president. Trump is "seriously" considering a 2024 bid for president and has "100%" mentioned it in conversations with his top advisers in recent days.

Trump Rolled Back 100+ Environmental Rules. Biden May Focus on Undoing Five of the Biggest Ones. Even if President-elect Joe Biden can reassemble the pieces of climate policy shattered by President Donald Trump, it is not likely to be adequate to tackle the challenge of global warming, which has grown substantially after four years of inaction. Biden faces science that paints a more alarming picture than it did four years ago and federal courts that, with Trump appointees, will be more skeptical of presidential power to act than when President Barack Obama put in place the first U.S. regulations to cut greenhouse gas emissions. — Trump and the Republican Party will kill us.

Why Trump and Mitch McConnell are pushing through Fed nominee Judy Shelton. Shelton’s pick is an unconventional one. She has a long history as a proponent of some pretty unorthodox views, including returning the US to the gold standard — a theory out of step with mainstream economics. During the Obama years, Shelton was a fierce critic of the Fed for keeping interest rates low, but under Trump, she has changed her tune to align with the president. Back in 2019, she made a habit of giving interviews from the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC — not exactly a sign of independence.

Senate Republicans fail to advance controversial Fed nominee Judy Shelton. But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who had initially voted for the nominee, switched to vote against her, giving him the procedural right to bring her up for another vote in the near future. It's not clear when that might happen. The final vote was 47-50.

Obama symbolized change. Trump became the “savior” from it. It is tempting to think that Donald Trump erupted out of nowhere, like a volcano that everybody thought was a mountain. But of course he grew out of who we are, who we have been. And he belongs to a global tradition, that of the strongman...The strongman blend of masculinity is complex. They market themselves as alpha males, protectors of society, omnipotent, and, through their domination of the media, omnipresent. They often hold appeal after there have been significant economic and political gains in worker rights, racial equality, or gender issues, bringing up desires for a male hero to bring order back to a disordered world.

LSU mishandled sexual misconduct complaints against students, including top athletes. LSU’s failure to adequately address sexual misconduct goes beyond one star running back, a USA TODAY investigation found. Officials in the university’s athletic department and broader administration repeatedly have ignored complaints against abusers, denied victims’ requests for protections and subjected them to further harm by known perpetrators...”I just think that honestly they don’t care,” one of the women told USA TODAY. “The whole system is on the side of the accused.”
