And another day of scrambling for pardons, nominations, poor countries missing out on vaccines, encouraging signs in WA, wild mink contracting Covid-19, data breaches, recognizing the Negro League, loneliness, penis fish, and “a bunch of fuckers,” comes to a close:

“Haven’t followed the news much today, but seems like one side is mad that a staffer called Republicans a bunch of fuckers, and that a First Lady with a PhD calls herself doctor, and the other side is mad that the president is ignoring the pandemic and overturning the election.” -- David Freedlander

'It's turned crazy': Inside the scramble for Trump pardons. President Donald Trump may not be willing to accept his term is ending, but as the clock ticks down on his time in office, hundreds of his allies -- including some of his closest business associates and many high-profile criminals -- are ramping up their efforts to squeeze out the final ounces of his presidential power. Since Trump lost the election six weeks ago, calls and emails have been flooding into the West Wing from people looking to benefit from the President's powers of clemency. So inundated is Trump's staff with requests for pardons or commutations that a spreadsheet has been created to keep track of the requests directed to Trump's close aides. -- The pardon power needs to be refined. This is disgusting and about to be abused like has never been seen.

LGBTQ groups celebrate Buttigieg pick for Transportation secretary. Should Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Ind., be confirmed to the post, he would be the first openly gay Cabinet secretary to be confirmed by the Senate.

Covid-19 vaccines are being hoarded by rich countries — poor ones are missing out.

It typically takes "a few weeks" for the body to build immunity after vaccination, meaning a person could be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 just before or just after vaccination and get sick, according to the CDC.

Washington state officials see encouraging signs. Health Department Secretary Dr. John Wiesman and Dr. Kathy Lofy, the state health officer, said new cases and hospitalizations appear to be flattening a bit. However, they warned people to remain vigilant and to remain home for the holidays, because another surge on top of current case levels could swamp hospital capacity.

Rep. Joe Wilson tests positive for Covid-19.

‘We want them infected’: Trump appointee demanded ‘herd immunity’ strategy, emails reveal. Then-HHS science adviser Paul Alexander called for millions of Americans to be infected as means of fighting Covid-19. "Infants, kids, teens, young people, young adults, middle aged with no conditions etc. have zero to little risk….so we use them to develop herd…we want them infected…" Alexander added. "[I]t may be that it will be best if we open up and flood the zone and let the kids and young folk get infected" in order to get "natural immunity…natural exposure.” ...Alexander also argued that colleges should stay open to allow Covid-19 infections to spread, lamenting in a July 27 email to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield that “we essentially took off the battlefield the most potent weapon we had...younger healthy people, children, teens, young people who we needed to fastly [sic] infect themselves, spread it around, develop immunity, and help stop the spread.” -- As I said back then: Republicans were literally trying to kill you.

Massive hack of US government launches search for answers as Russia named top suspect. Days after several US agencies confirmed their networks were compromised in a massive data breach, federal officials are still struggling to understand the scope of the damage -- highlighting the sophistication and breadth of an ongoing hacking campaign that has been tied to Russia.

Why the US government hack is literally keeping security experts awake at night. One reason the attack is so concerning is because of who may have been victimized by the spying campaign.

MLB officially recognizes Negro League as "major league" after 100 years. The seven leagues, which played from 1920 to 1948, will have their stats and records added to MLB history.

A profitable 'death trap': Sequel youth facilities raked in millions while accused of abusing children. "These are places that are supposed to provide a safe, homelike, therapeutic environment,” Johnson said. “That's not what we saw." Sequel, a company with locations in 20 states that turned a $25 million profit in 2016, markets itself as a national leader in providing specialized care for at-risk youth. Yet, at these facilities, children have been sexually and physically assaulted by staff members. A 16-year-old, Cornelius Frederick, died this year after several staff members restrained him at a Sequel facility in Michigan, prompting disability rights proponents, legislators and child advocacy groups in at least six states to question whether the company focuses more on profit than rehabilitating the children in its care.

The most common religious identity among young adults in the U.S. is "none," and the majority of Americans don’t believe it’s necessary for a person to believe in God to be moral and have good values, a new survey has found. — That’s because it’s not.

What’s the point of an office holiday party? The coronavirus has pulled back the curtain on America’s staggering inequalities: The pandemic is disproportionately affecting low-wage workers in the hospitality, travel, and meatpacking industries, compared to the college-educated professional class. Employees are saying they’d rather receive hazard pay or bonuses for their work than cursory gestures of year-end appreciation. Online, people are urging companies to devote their party budget to local food pantries or charitable causes. The British property firm Landmark Investments, for example, has launched a campaign called XMas Party Heroes, urging big corporations to pledge their party budgets for charity.

Loneliness can help grow parts of brain tied to imagination, study finds. “This first study was really important in terms of identifying what parts of the brain are impacted by loneliness," he said. "We're using that information and we're following a large sample of older adults. We're seeing how their brain ages over multiple years, and how their experience of loneliness might actually accelerate atrophy patterns."

Kangaroos can ask humans for help, new study shows. Researchers found that kangaroos "intentionally" communicated with humans -- a behavior that was previously thought to be reserved for domesticated animals, like dogs, horses or goats.

Get to know the very charismatic penis fish invading a California beach. They shoot jets of water out of their butts to toss their poop into the air. A penis fish is neither a penis nor a fish. The first is probably obvious, though we wouldn’t fault you for some momentary confusion on that front.

Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.

Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
