And another day of exponential growth, Democracy on the brink, the GOP softening on fiscal conservatism, calls for resignations, advising mental health care, Swiss voters, a revamped beauty contest, Meghan and Harry, and imaginary numbers comes to a close:

"I just wanted to say to all you cowards out there, don't be such a chicken squat. Get out there and get your shot.” -- Dolly Parton as she prepared to get her first dose.

Don't drop the masks yet. One coronavirus variant is 'increasing exponentially' as the US races to vaccinate. Some Americans are ditching personal responsibility and forgoing masks, even though the highly contagious B.1.1.7 variant has spread to at least 46 states and Washington, DC. "That strain is increasing exponentially. It's spiking up," said Dr. Celine Gounder, an infectious diseases specialist and epidemiologist. "So we are probably right now on a tipping point of another surge." -- I so wish more Americans understood basic math like exponential growth.

Democracy on the Brink. One party is racing to fix an ailing electoral system. The other is doing everything in its power to shut voters out of it. On one side is a group that looks at the last election and sees a resilient but damaged system. A system that withstood — sometimes only barely — a raging pandemic, a conspiracy-theory-peddling president, a major political party all too eager to amplify that president’s lies, a wave of hail-mary lawsuits intended to overthrow the election result, and a violent insurrection in the halls of the U.S. Capitol. The other side of this battle sees that rickety system and wants to break it so badly the voters can never get in their way again.

The GOP is having a change of heart on economics. It could have implications for policymaking. The Republican Party is showing signs of softening its trademark fiscal conservative brand in favor of a new populist approach, a potentially seminal shift as the party becomes more reliant on blue-collar white voters after Donald Trump’s presidency.

Google advised mental health care when workers complained about racism and sexism. In the weeks since both women’s departures, nine other current and former Google employees have come forward to say they were treated the same way. They consulted human resources after colleagues made comments about their skin color or Black hairstyles, or asked if they were sexually interested in their teammates. They also contacted human resources to report retaliation after protesting sexual harassment issues and to advocate for raises for Black people to match white employees’ pay. Each time, human resource personnel recommended the employees seek therapy or take medical leave to address their mental health — despite their mental well-being having nothing to do with their complaints. An additional 12 current and former Google employees confirmed that this is a common practice at Google’s human resources department.

Swiss voters backed a ban on niqabs and burqas worn by a handful of Muslim women in the country.

Anja Kallenbach, a 33-year-old mother of two, was crowned Miss Germany in a revamped beauty contest. Organizers ditched the classic swimsuit walk and focused on a woman's conviction and personality rather than her looks.

Harry and Meghan speak out about royal family split in interview. Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, have opened up about life in the British royal family in a tell-all interview with US television personality Oprah Winfrey.

Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.

Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
