And another day of the most dangerous threat in the world, vetoes, the American west drying out, US Catholic bishops’ rebuke, Bolsonaro’s dangerous rule, and Cole Beasley’s choice all comes to a close:

“Half the senate is dedicated to making African Americans 2nd class citizens. So the fact that they can vote unanimously for a Juneteenth holiday just shows they know that it has no substantive impact on the lives of Black America. Symbols are good but substance is better.” — Dr. Jason Johnson

Juneteenth, recalling end of slavery, is marked across US.

The Republican Party has turned fascist - it is now the most dangerous threat in the world. The other change among Republicans is much less commented on, but is more sinister and significant. This is the systematic Republican takeover of the electoral machinery that oversees elections and makes sure that they are fair. Minor officials in charge of them have suddenly become vital to the future of American democracy. Remember that it was only the refusal of these functionaries to cave in to Trump’s threats and blandishments that stopped him stealing the presidential election last November.

A growing number of Republican lawmakers are refusing to say that the Jan. 6 insurrection was actually an insurrection.

Texas governor vetoes funding for legislative staff over Democrats' walkout. The Republican had threatened the veto after a walkout by Democrats that denied a House quorum to vote on controversial voting restrictions.

The American West is drying out. Things will get ugly.

From burgers to chocolate to beer: How climate change will affect what we eat. Unless climate change can be greatly minimized, rising temperatures will disrupt food production around the world and potentially alter the way we eat, a new study finds.

U.S. Catholic bishops move toward rebuke of Biden for abortion policy. U.S. Catholic bishops overwhelmingly approved the drafting of a “teaching document” that many of them hope will rebuke Catholic politicians, including President Joe Biden, for receiving Communion despite their support for abortion rights. — But it’s cool for Catholic priests to sexually abuse children, and for all Catholics to support the death penalty. Sham religion.

“As a Catholic, this is reason 6459 to have nothing to do with the Catholic church.” — Joe Lockhart

Bolsonaro's rule is 'worse threat than coronavirus,' say Brazilians as nation passes 500,000 deaths.

Buffalo Bills' Cole Beasley says he'd rather retire than get Covid-19 vaccine. -- Okay.

Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.

Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
