And another day of frightening activity, the infrastructure bill, booster shots, viral load, NFL tension, ‘apocalyptic’ scenes in Greece, fire in CA, company cameras in employee homes, FB wanting your prayers, the Olympics, and Rand Paul goes off the deep end comes to a close:

Interviews with former Justice Department officials provide new details on Trump efforts to undermine election results. Rosen spoke of numerous interactions with Clark, but much of the focus of his testimony was on five episodes where Clark went out of the chain of command to push the fraud claims. That included the January 3 White House meeting where Trump had the two men vie for the attorney general's job before deciding not to replace Rosen with Clark…Blumenthal said he "was struck by how close the country came to total catastrophe" after listening to the entire closed-door testimony of Rosen Saturday. "There were some very relevant and important facts. And equally important, some good leads about where the investigation can go," Blumenthal told CNN's Manu Raju.

Trumps acting attorney general revealed frightening activity at Justice Department, Senate Judiciary chair says. "It really is important that we ask these questions, because what was going on in the Department of Justice was frightening from a constitutional point of view," he added. "To think that (former Attorney General) Bill Barr left, resigned after he announced he didn't see irregularities in the election, and then his replacement was under extraordinary pressure -- the President of the United States, even to the point where they were talking about replacing him, that pressure was on."

“The GOP base no longer believes democracy can give them the America they want. So they embrace authoritarianism to give them the America they want.” — Joe Walsh

Senators push infrastructure bill a step closer to passage. Senators hoisted the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package over another hurdle late Sunday, a coalition of Democrats and Republicans pushing it closer to passage despite a few holdouts trying to derail one of President Joe Biden’s top priorities.

‘A Band-Aid over a gaping hole': Booster shots for the rich world won't end the pandemic, experts warn.

Why scientists are talking about viral load and the delta variant. What sets delta apart, experts say, is how much virus is produced by those who are infected — a measure known as viral load.

Rand Paul is actively trying to kill as many Americans as he possibly can. “It’s time for us to resist. They can’t arrest all of us .. No one should follow the CDC.” He then says he will introduce amendments to defund any govt agency that seeks to enforce CDC guidelines, including schools.

Editorial: You know. All this school confusion and disinformation is really about just one thing for Republicans: to sow doubt in the public's mind in order to defund, and eventually end, public education and move education to private schools. It’s been their mission for a very long time.

NFL tensions rise over vaccine rules. Tensions are running high in the NFL over COVID-19 vaccinations, with a vocal minority of players and coaches criticizing rules mandated by the league that is intended to raise the vaccination rate of team players and staff. The NFL actually has a high vaccination rate, according to statistics released by the league.

To shake or not to shake? As workers return to the office and in-person contact becomes more common, views differ on whether the centuries-old custom will make a comeback or become another casualty of the coronavirus pandemic.

‘Apocalyptic’ scenes hit Greece as Athens besieged by fire. The city is surrounded by flames. On the ground, there are tales of heroism – and fear for the future.

Big Tech call center workers face pressure to accept home surveillance. Colombia-based call center workers who provide outsourced customer service to some of the nation’s largest companies are being pressured to sign a contract that lets their employer install cameras in their homes to monitor work performance. -- Um, no.

Some praise, some doubts as Facebook rolls out a prayer tool. Facebook already asks for your thoughts. Now it wants your prayers. The social media giant has rolled out a new prayer request feature, a tool embraced by some religious leaders as a cutting-edge way to engage the faithful online. Others are eyeing it warily as they weigh its usefulness against the privacy and security concerns they have with Facebook.

Tokyo Olympics closing ceremony marks end of strangest games on record. It began with a virus and a yearlong pause. It ended with a typhoon blowing through and, still, a virus. In between: just about everything.

What should count more, gold medals or total medals? The answer is neither, because judging success with a medal table is questionable and promotes nationalism. The medal table is undignified and should be abolished from the Olympics. Medal rankings only reflect output, which should not be the only measure of success. It promotes state-directed doping and rewards nations that pump lots of money into sports…The medal count embodies the Olympic idea of striving for top performance, but it comes at the expense of other Olympic values: overcoming national narcisism for the common celebration of sport and contributing to peace and national understanding.

Olympic swimmer to media: No more interviews after "disappointing" performances. U.S. Olympic swimmer Simone Manuel is telling media outlets to stop interviewing athletes “after a disappointing performance,” saying athletes should be treated as human beings first. “Please stop interviewing athletes right after a disappointing performance before they have any time to process anything. Trust me. They gave it their all. Nothing else people need to know at that time,” Manuel wrote in a Twitter thread on Friday.
