And another day of incorrect beliefs, ‘ample chance,’ regrets, TX creating crimes related to voting, 4 governors under fire, energy industry donations in TX, protests in India, and alcohol linked to more cancers comes to a close:

Majority of unvaccinated incorrectly believe vaccine poses bigger risk than COVID-19: poll. The KFF COVID-19 Vaccine Monitor released Wednesday found that 53 percent of unvaccinated respondents think getting the vaccine is a bigger risk to their health than the virus itself. Seventy-five percent of people who said they would "definitely not" get the shot think the COVID-19 vaccine is a bigger risk.

If more Americans don't get vaccinated, there is 'ample chance' for a more dangerous variant to emerge, Fauci says. With unvaccinated Americans driving the country's latest surge, experts have stressed that the more the virus continues to spread, the more opportunities it has to mutate -- making it more likely that another variant, which could pose a problem to vaccines, could arise. -- Fucking anti-vaxxers.

US plans to require COVID-19 shots for foreign travelers. The Biden administration is taking the first steps toward requiring nearly all foreign visitors to the U.S. to be vaccinated for the coronavirus, a White House official said Wednesday.

Delta and vaccinated parents: What people with kids under 12 need to know. She said the best way to protect kids who are currently too young to get vaccinated is for everyone else in the household who is eligible to get the shots. After that, decisions should be guided by what's happening in individual communities and each family's comfort level, she added.

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson says he regrets banning mask mandates — and wants the law reversed so schools can choose to require masks when kids return to classrooms this fall.

Some push for Washington state to bring face mask mandate back. As COVID-19 continues to spread, there are increasing calls for the state to reimpose face masks for everyone in public settings regardless of their vaccination status. But the question now is should that order come in the form of a mandate from the governor's office?

Sturgis bike rally revs back bigger, despite virus variant. Crowds of bikers are rumbling their way towards South Dakota’s Black Hills this week, raising fears that COVID-19 infections will be unleashed among the 700,000 people expected to show up at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

The governors of the 4 largest states in the country are all under fire right now. Being governor is usually a great job. You have oodles of control, can get things done and don't have to worry about pesky things like the filibuster. Except at the moment, that is. In fact, a quick scan across the country reveals that the four governors who lead the most populous states find themselves in varying degrees of political trouble. -- Newsome (CA); DeSants (FL); Cuomo (NY); and Abbott (TX).

Majority of NY Assembly would oust Cuomo if he doesn’t quit. A majority of state Assembly members support beginning impeachment proceedings against Gov. Andrew Cuomo if he doesn’t resign over investigative findings that he sexually harassed at least 11 women, according to an Associated Press count Wednesday.

A bill from Texas state Republicans would create several new crimes related to voting. Democrats say mistakes from voters could wind up putting them in jail. -- This is all about scaring citizens into not voting.

Former President Donald Trump challenged in court last week's Justice Department order to turn his tax returns over to a House of Representatives committee, part of his long campaign to keep details of his wealth secret.

Energy industry showers Gov. Greg Abbott, other Texas politicians with campaign cash after they passed power grid bills. For some energy experts, the increase in donations for the officials at the close of the session looks like a reward for not passing more stringent regulations and raises questions about whether lawmakers let the oil, gas and the broader energy industry off easy for its massive failures.

Belarus Olympic runner who feared going home lands in Poland. “I’m not planning to return home after all the events that happened in Belarus,” Maksimava said on Instagram, adding that “you can lose not just your freedom but also your life” in her homeland.

America isn’t taking care of caregivers. An estimated 47.9 million adults in the United States — a staggering 19.3 percent — provide informal care to an adult with physical or mental health needs. This unpaid work, which includes everything from trips to the doctor to feeding, bathing, and toileting, has been valued at $470 billion per year, equivalent to three-quarters of the entire budget of Medicaid. Even in the best of times, the vast majority of this work is invisible and undersupported, leaving millions of caregivers struggling in silence. The Covid-19 pandemic pushed many caregivers into crisis…Among caregivers for adults who were also parents of young children, a staggering 50 percent said they had experienced serious suicidal thoughts. The authors warned of “an urgent need to tailor public health efforts for this population.”

August 4 marks the one-year anniversary of the Beirut blast, but the wounds inflicted on the city and people have yet to heal. The blast, one of history’s largest non-nuclear explosions, was caused after a warehouse that had been storing 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate caught fire. Investigations into the blast, which left over 200 dead and injured thousands, have yielded little in the way of results, while many Lebanese continue to call for justice. — Warning: Graphic video and pictures.

Protests and anger in India after 4 men were arrested for the alleged rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl, whose death has brought into focus both rampant sexual violence as well as caste prejudice in the country. The girl belonged to one of Hinduism’s most oppressed castes and was found dead near a Delhi crematorium on Sunday night. Even though it is outlawed by the constitution, caste prejudice is rife in Hindu-majority India — and the violence perpetuated against those at the bottom of this hereditary social hierarchy, has once again caused outrage.

One state is trying to make pregnancy in prison slightly more bearable. Beginning Sunday, pregnant women in Minnesota’s prisons became eligible to avoid what Pollard and Mason experienced. In May, the state passed the Healthy Start Act, which allows pregnant mothers to serve their sentences in community alternatives, such as halfway houses or addiction rehabilitation centers. The change allows mothers and their babies to bond during what is recognized as a crucial period when nurturing is particularly important for the development of children...Nationally, there is no standard policy for what happens when a woman gives birth while incarcerated. Only recently have some states, like Minnesota, Georgia and New York, banned the shackling of pregnant women during labor and childbirth.

NFL's Washington Football Team, which dropped the controversial nickname "Redskins" last year, will ban spectators from wearing Native American ceremonial headdresses or face paint at home games.

Alcohol linked to more cancers than previously thought, study finds. Alcohol consumption is linked to several cancers including those of the head and neck – mouth, pharynx and larynx – oesophageal and bowel, along with the more widely known connection with breast and liver cancer, according to an international team led by Imperial College London.

Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.

Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
