And another day of $10,000 bounties, vigilantism, $5.8 trillion, TX saying openly carry guns without permit or training, children just as likely to get Covid as adults, religion being used to be a horrible person, and TX embraces the number of the beast comes to a close:

“It’s worth noting that many of the same people attacking the Biden Administration for leaving women’s rights behind in Afghanistan are eager to control women’s bodies and choices in the United States.” — Dan Rather

“Today in Texas you can carry a gun without a permit but you can’t register to vote online or get an abortion after 6 weeks.” — Ari Berman

“If you believe that wearing a piece of cloth over your nose and mouth represents a bigger infringement on your rights than a woman being forced to carry a rapists child to term, it’s time to reassess your definition of freedom.” — Andrew Weinstein

In Texas, 666 Laws Take Effect Sept. 1, Including Many Conservative Priorities. — The number says it all. The Texas dystopian nightmare is here.

Texas bans most abortions, with high court mum on appeal. If allowed to remain in force, the law, which bans most abortions, would be the strictest against abortion rights in the United States since the high court’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision in 1973.

What the Supreme Court's inaction means for the future of Roe v. Wade. Still, supporters of abortion rights know that even though the court didn't rule on the merits Tuesday night, it sent a strong signal about where it's going...But this law prevents government officials from directly enforcing the ban. Critics say that was done on purpose to try to insulate the dispute from federal court review. Instead, the law allows private citizens -- anywhere in the country -- to bring civil suits against anyone who assists a pregnant person seeking an abortion in violation of the ban. That would include someone who transported a patient to a clinic, potentially. Or someone who agreed to pay for another person's abortion. -- And it will soon be replicated across several other states. We all lose when you vote Republican or vote “third party” or don’t vote at all.

“The Republican Party increasingly valorizes vigilantism and has taken steps to legalize various forms of right-wing intimidation. The Texas abortion law should be seen in that context.” -- Michelle Goldberg

“Texas won’t force a 12 year old to wear a mask at school but they’ll force her to have a fucking baby.” -- Santiago Mayer

Texans can now openly carry guns in public without a permit or training. Police say the new law makes it harder to do their jobs. A new pro-gun law in Texas that went into effect Wednesday allows most Texans who legally own a firearm to carry it openly in public without obtaining a permit or training, a measure that experts say will make it more challenging for law enforcement to protect the public from gun violence. -- More of the Texas dystopian nightmare.

America's price tag for two decades of war: $5.8 trillion. As America ends two decades of conflict in Afghanistan, the full financial tab is coming into view. Since the September 11 attacks nearly 20 years ago, the U.S. will have spent $5.8 trillion waging war in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Syria by the end of 2022, including interest on debt used to finance the wars. — At $1 per second, it takes around 32,000 years to acquire $1 trillion. Yes, thirty-two thousand years. For only one trillion dollars. These wars cost us $5.8 trillion.

Contrary to research early in the pandemic, children are just as likely to become infected as adults. According to the CDC, Covid-19 infection rates for children ages 5 to 17 are higher than rates in adults over 50.

A Texas school district closed all its schools after two teachers died from Covid-19. "Our hope is that the closure and holiday break will provide those who are positive with the virus or exposed to others with the virus, the time to isolate and recover. This closure will also allow time for deep cleaning and sanitizing of all CISD facilities," the district said in an email.

California hits 80 percent threshold for vaccinations.

Virginia Tech and Xavier University in New Orleans are the latest colleges to disenroll students for not following their Covid-19 vaccine mandates.

The Supreme Court of Virginia has upheld a lower court ruling that ordered the reinstatement of a northern Virginia gym teacher who said he won’t refer to transgender students by the pronouns they use. — And again religion is used as cover to be a fucking asshole.

White supremacist praise of the Taliban takeover concerns US officials.

Grand jury in Elijah McClain investigation indicts officers, medics in 2019 death. The announcement comes just over two years since the death of McClain, 23, who had told police, "I can't breathe," after they placed him in a chokehold.

According to researchers in Italy, the unsettling experience of making eye contact with a robot is more than just a feeling.

Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.

Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
