And another day of what Americans want, booster shots, hearing and balance affected by Covid, reversing decision about banning books, academic freedom, warming is changing the Arctic, forever chemicals, and research leads to leave comes to a close:

“The Republican Party is the most dangerous organization in human history.” — Noam Chomsky

Americans by 2-1 margin say Supreme Court should uphold Roe v. Wade. Among respondents, 60 percent said the justices should uphold Roe, compared to 27 percent who said the court should overturn it and 12 percent who expressed no opinion, the Washington Post-ABC News poll showed. Similarly, nearly 2 in 3, 65 percent, said the court should reject a Texas law that bans abortion after six weeks of pregnancy and authorizes private citizens to enforce the restriction.

Beto O’Rourke went after assault rifles in his run for president. Will that hurt him with gun-loving Texans? As he runs for governor in the state with the most gun owners in the nation, Beto O'Rourke said he won't back down on his message on guns. A 2019 University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll found that 59% of Texas voters support a ban on semiautomatic weapons.

Fauci says boosters for all key to U.S. reaching COVID-19 endemic level. Top U.S. infectious disease official Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Tuesday it is possible for COVID-19 to be reduced to an endemic illness from the current major health crisis next year if the country ramps up vaccination rates. Booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccines are vital for reaching that point, Fauci said in an interview during the Reuters Total Health conference, which runs virtually from Nov. 15-18.

Sensory symptoms, including loss of taste and smell, sometimes come with COVID-19. Hearing and balance symptoms associated with COVID-19 have also been reported, but these have not been thoroughly studied. Hearing loss and balance disorders often result from viral infections in the inner ear. But the effects of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, on the ear remain poorly understood.

GOP-majority court chosen to consider Biden vaccine mandate. Challenges to President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for private employers will be consolidated in the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, a panel dominated by judges appointed by Republicans.

Cases surge in new COVID hot spots of Michigan, Minnesota. Hospitals in Michigan and Minnesota on Tuesday reported a wave of COVID-19 patients not seen in months as beds were filled with unvaccinated people and health care leaders warned that staff were being worn down by yet another surge.

After public backlash, Spotsylvania school board will not remove 'sexually explicit' books from libraries. The Spotsylvania County School Board voted Monday night to reverse its decision to remove "sexually explicit" books from school libraries after hours of public comment…When it came time to vote in the early hours Tuesday morning, two board members continued to object to keeping said books in libraries, with the motion passing 5 to 2.

House to vote on censuring Gosar over video. The House will vote Wednesday on a resolution to censure Republican Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona for tweeting an animated video that depicted him striking Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., with a sword...The censure carries no practical effect, except to provide a historic footnote that marks a lawmaker’s career. -- That’ll teach him.

Three more professors join lawsuit against UF over academic freedom. Three more professors have joined a lawsuit against the University of Florida calling for an end to the conflict of interest policy that limited their ability to testify in lawsuits against the state. Added as plaintiffs on Monday were Jeffrey Goldhagen, a pediatrics professor and the chief of the Division of Community and Societal Pediatrics, and law professors Kenneth Nunn and Teresa Reid. They join political science professors Sharon Austin, Michael McDonald and Daniel Smith, who filed the lawsuit last week after the university barred them from testifying against the state in a case challenging Florida’s new voting laws.

Ice on the edge of survival: Warming is changing the Arctic. Between 1971 and 2019, the surface of the Arctic warmed three times faster than the rest of the world, according to the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program. The result? “The Arctic isn’t just changing in temperature,” Abdalati said. “It’s changing in state. It’s becoming a different place.”…This isn’t just a problem for people living in the Arctic. It spells trouble for regions much farther south. An increasingly large number of studies link Arctic changes to alterations of the jet stream — the river of air that moves weather from west to east — and other weather systems. And those changes, scientists say, can contribute to more extreme weather events, such as floods, drought, the February Texas freeze, or more severe wildfires. Also, the melting of ice sheets and glaciers can add considerably to rising sea levels.

A second HIV patient may have been "cured" of infection without stem cell treatment, in an extremely rare case. The patient has received no regular treatment for her infection but is a rare "elite controller" of the virus who, eight years after she was first diagnosed, shows no signs of active infection and shows no signs of intact virus in her body, researchers reported Monday. This has only been reported once before.

Two "forever chemicals" more toxic than previously thought: EPA drafts. The drafts found the safe levels of ingestion for chemicals PFOA and PFOS are much lower than the agency had found in prior assessments.  The agency also found that PFOA is “likely” carcinogenic to humans. This is a step up from before, as it has previously said that there is “suggestive” evidence that the substance can cause cancer. Both PFOA and PFOS can be found in drinking water, as well as other substances. PFOA has been used in nonstick cookware, flame repellants and cosmetics. PFOS has been used in water-resistant and stain-resistant products.

Using cannabis during pregnancy linked to aggression and anxiety in children, a study suggests. Researchers have found a link between marijuana use by expectant mothers and autism and childhood psychosis. Now, a small study has shown how cannabis use can affect the placenta and may be linked to higher levels of anxiety, aggression and hyperactivity in children.

Old Dominion University has put an assistant professor on administrative leave after a strong public reaction over their research on people who are attracted to children prompted safety concerns on campus. Walker’s research on pedophilia and people who have a sexual attraction to children recently gained national attention both in the local community and on the internet. Walker’s research called for change in the way we refer to “minor-attracted persons” who don’t act on their attractions...However, the research was not well-received by many.

Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.

Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
