And another day of ‘vivid color,’ defying subpoenas, no GOP legislative agenda, DeSantis’ civilian military force, parents charged with manslaughter, meeting their match, white NFL owners, free menstrual products in school, and traumatic experiences with fraternities comes to a close:

“How many times a day can you ask what is wrong with this country?” — Susan Jenkins

“Hard to sum up the depravity of the GOP better than a bunch of rich, vaccinated Republicans telling their less rich, less vaccinated base DO NOT COMPLY so Americans in redder areas keep dying of Covid-19 just to hurt Joe Biden's presidency.” — LOLGOP

The Jan. 6 committee is promising it has the goods. We're about to find out. Liz Cheney says “several weeks” of public hearings that will tell the story of the riot at the Capitol in “vivid color” are coming in 2022. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) has offered a sense of what to expect from the investigation as the calendar turns. In short, expect a lot.

Conservative lawyer Eastman says he will defy subpoena from January 6 committee. John Eastman, a conservative lawyer who helped craft a questionable legal theory that former Vice President Mike Pence had the constitutional authority to interrupt the certification of the 2020 presidential election results, has informed the January 6 congressional committee that he plans to defy a subpoena from the panel. In the letter dated December 1, Eastman's attorney Charles Burnham wrote to committee Chair Rep. Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat, that answering the committee's questions could put Eastman at legal risk. "Dr. Eastman has a more than reasonable fear that any statements he makes pursuant to this subpoena will be used in an attempt to mount a criminal investigation against him," Burnham wrote. He continued: "While Dr. Eastman emphatically denies committing any illegal acts, he nonetheless has a reasonable fear that the requested information could be used against him in court."

McConnell: No legislative agenda for 2022 midterms. Every midterm cycle, there are Republican donors and operatives who argue the party should release a positive, pro-active governing outline around which candidates can rally. McConnell adamantly rejects this idea, preferring to skewer Democrats for their perceived failures…The bottom line: Current polls appear to support McConnell's political calculation. By almost any measure — from President Biden's approval rating to the generic ballot — Republicans are enjoying their best political environment for a decade. They're in this position having barely uttered a word about their plans for the future. — The Republican Party runs on fostering hatred towards others. It explicitly gives people permission to hate. And it’s easier to hate than it is to love others and tackle challenging problems

DeSantis proposes a new civilian military force in Florida that he would control. State defense guards are little-known auxiliary forces with origins dating back to the advent of state militias in the 18th century. While states and the Department of Defense share control of the National Guard, state guards are solely in the power of a governor. State guards are typically deployed to respond during a disaster, though governors have found other reasons to call them into action. — The “red” states are preparing.

“KEY POINT: DeSantis isn't reactivating the State Guard to *supplement* the U.S. military as was intended during World War II. He's doing it to *circumvent* the U.S. military. He wants an armed force that will act IN OPPOSITION to the U.S. military, not serve in its absence…Ron DeSantis is bringing back "Let Us Alone" after 176 years because his commitment to the U.S. is clearly waning. So. Will Florida attempt to secede or otherwise attempt to break up the U.S.? Who knows. But Republicans are sending all the messages and they're not subtle.” —  Brandon Friedman

As I said: The “red” states are preparing.

Twitter’s new privacy policy makes it harder to spread warnings about online fascists. Left-leaning researchers and activists are being targeted by takedown complaints. ut as Snyder warned, and her experience seemingly demonstrates, the far-right has already taken advantage of Twitter’s new policy to target people who are keeping an eye on them.

The man accused of killing 10 people at a Colorado grocery store in March has been found incompetent to stand trial and will be transferred to a state hospital, officials say.

Mostly white jury nearly set for Kim Potter trial in Daunte Wright's death. Potter, a former Minnesota police officer, was charged with manslaughter in the killing of Wright after she said she drew her handgun instead of her Taser during a traffic stop.

The anti-vaccine natural herd immunity-just go get COVID crowd has met their match … with reality…Again, we all pay for the bad choices any of us make. So when Ted Cruz pitches a fit that he will close the government if his anti-vax policies aren’t considered. And when DeSantis says he will pay fines for people don’t vaccinate. And when Red states sue to stop hospitals from requiring vaccinations, well, this is what we get.

Missouri Withheld Data Showing Effectiveness of Mask Mandates. Mask mandates were effective as the delta variant of the coronavirus was driving a surge in COVID-19 cases across Missouri, according to an analysis that the state’s Department of Health and Senior Services conducted in early November. But the state did not immediately share that data with the public. Instead, the information was released Wednesday, a month later, because of a public records request by The Missouri Independent, a nonprofit news organization that reported the findings, and the Documenting COVID-19 project at the Brown Institute for Media Innovation.

3rd military medical team sent to Michigan amid COVID surge. A third 22-member medical team from the U.S. military is being deployed to Michigan, where hospitals are grappling with record-high numbers of COVID-19 patients amid the state’s fourth surge of infections.

Unvaccinated Nevada state workers to pay insurance surcharge. State workers enrolled in public employee healthcare plans in Nevada will be charged up to $55 per month if they aren't vaccinated.

Man in Italy uses fake silicone arm to try to get vaccine certificate. A 50-year-old man tried to pass off a silicone arm as his own at a Covid-19 vaccination clinic in northern Italy, in an attempt to get a vaccine certificate without actually getting inoculated.

Pipeline: Cascade of white owners has slowed NFL change. Over the past 100 years, around 110 people have owned controlling portions of NFL teams. Of that select group, all but two have been white. This basic head count might offer the simplest explanation for how, even with rules in place for nearly two decades that are designed to improve diversity, the league has struggled to build a pipeline for bringing Blacks and other minorities into coaching and front-office positions.

Critical race theory founder says he and his wife receiving death threats. "We get some of the grossest telephone messages that you can imagine," said the University of Alabama professor. "Some of the stuff is hard to believe. It's full of venom."

People with learning disabilities 'living a nightmare'. That is according to evidence in a new study from Ulster University (UU) into the impact of Covid-19 on people with learning disabilities. Support services for people with learning disabilities "disappeared or were markedly reduced" during the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic. They have not returned to pre-pandemic levels, according to the report.

France stunned as judo star’s coach cleared of domestic violence. Margaux Pinot says she feared her partner would kill her, but judge says there is not enough proof of guilt.

The case for free tampons and pads in schools. Right now, there is little national data about teenagers' access to menstrual products. But what little information there is suggests the lack of access is worse for poor students. The only publicly available study tracking the impact of period poverty among U.S. teenage students, which was funded by PERIOD, found that 23 percent of students have struggled to afford period products…"Menstrual products should be treated in the same way you treat restocking toilet paper," says Michele Anzabi, one of the presidents of the PERIOD chapter at the University of Pennsylvania. "It's a medical necessity and therefore, it shouldn't be hindered by conversations about cost, but treated as something that needs to be addressed."

People Are Sharing Their Traumatic Experiences With Fraternities, And It's Important We Talk About It. Warning: Submissions include mentions of sexual assault, rape, racism, and abuse. Proceed with caution. — Fraternities are unnecessary bullshit on college campuses.
