And another day of Supreme Court status, removing posts, rationing vaccines, Israeli police brutality, Turkey, GOP ok with letting migrants starve to death, milk banks, dangerous formula recipes, encouraging trolls, and a blood moon comes to a close:

Roe reversal draft fallout: Alito gives update on Supreme Court status amid abortion protests. Alito called Gorsuch a "colleague and friend," saying he is happy to have him on the court. Yet he reiterated his view that Gorsuch's opinion is "in my view indefensible." Alito noted that the concept of gender identity was unknown at the time Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and that Congress would not have passed the law if legislators had known it would be interpreted this way. "It might not have gotten a single vote," he said. — Read that again. Alito is saying the Supreme Court’s decision applying the Civil Rights Act to LGBTQ employees is “indefensible.” As we have said, the Supreme Court stripping Americans of rights will not stop with abortion. They plan on taking all of them. This is not a fucking drill.

Why Do Social Media Platforms Keep Removing Posts About Safe and Legal Abortion Pills? Access to solid information about how to get ahold of abortion pills is more crucial now than ever.

White House prepares to ration vaccines as Covid funding impasse looms. Just two months after the administration unveiled a nearly 100-page roadmap out of the crisis, doubts are growing about Congress’ willingness to fund the nation’s fight. It has forced Biden officials to debate deep cuts to their Covid operation and game out ways to keep the federal effort afloat on a month-by-month basis. Among the sacrifices being weighed are limiting access to its next generation of vaccines to only the highest-risk Americans — a rationing that would have been unthinkable just a year ago, when the White House touted the development and widespread availability of vaccines as the clearest way out of the pandemic. But as the government’s cash reserves dwindle, officials are increasingly concluding that these types of difficult choices will soon have to be made. And they are quietly preparing to shift responsibility for other key parts of the pandemic response to the private sector as early as 2023. — This is all because of Republicans blocking legislation. They are going to screw us badly and we will all pay. We all lose when Republicans have so much power. Vote Blue. In this day and age, always vote Blue. Always.

Some things you have to see to believe. Here is video of Israeli forces beating pallbearers as they carry the body of the late Journalist Shireen Abu Aqla who, you remember, was shot in the head by Israeli forces a few days ago. They beat the pallbearers so severely the pallbearers drop her coffin. Absolutely disgusting. Here’s a closer view. Wow. The hatred. The hatred is appalling.

Israeli police beat pallbearers at journalist’s funeral. Israeli riot police on Friday pushed and beat pallbearers at the funeral for slain Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, causing them to briefly drop the casket in a shocking start to a procession that turned into perhaps the largest display of Palestinian nationalism in Jerusalem in a generation.

Turkey’s leader opposes letting Finland, Sweden join NATO. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday that his country is “not favorable” toward Finland and Sweden joining NATO, indicating Turkey could use its membership in the Western military alliance to veto moves to admit the two countries...The Turkish leader explained his opposition by citing Sweden and other Scandinavian countries’ alleged support for Kurdish militants and others whom Turkey considers to be terrorists.

‘Pro-Life’ Conservatives Are Mad the Government Isn’t Letting Migrant Infants Starve to Death. Fox News and Republican lawmakers are up in arms that the Biden administration is caring for babies at the border during a formula shortage

Baby formula shortage fueling spike in milk bank interest. The U.S. baby formula shortage has sparked a surge of interest at milk banks around the U.S. with some mothers offering to donate breast milk and desperate parents calling to see if it’s a solution to keep their babies fed. It’s a pathway that won’t work for every formula-fed baby, especially those with special dietary needs, and it comes with challenges because the country’s dozens of nonprofit milk banks prioritize feeding medically fragile infants. The organizations collect milk from mothers and process it, including through pasteurization, then work with hospitals to distribute it.

Social Media Influencers Are Sharing Dangerous Formula Recipes. Some are also claiming that Bill Gates created the shortage. Not every parent can provide breast milk, and the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Food and Drug Administration warn that homemade formula can be very dangerous for babies—it can cause severe digestive problems and even transmit bacteria that their developing immune systems can’t handle. Yet despite these clear warnings, natural lifestyle influencers are promoting homemade formula recipes online.

California panel unanimously rejects proposal for plant to turn ocean water into drinking water. The California Coastal Commission, which is responsible for protecting the state's shores, voted Thursday to deny a permit to seawater desalination developer Poseidon Water to build a desalination plant in Huntington Beach. California Gov. Gavin Newsom was among the supporters for the plan, which promised to produce 50 million gallons of drinking water a day. Steve Sheldon, president of the Orange County Water District, said the plant would make the county "drought resilient." Several environmental justice and ocean groups, as well as the commission itself, opposed the project for reasons including environmental conservation, marine life and the eventual increase in water bills.

A Canadian town is under evacuation after breakaway ice causes flooding. Town residents will not be allowed to return home because "their presence here is detrimental to our recovery effort," the release said.

Apple iPod creator warns the metaverse will encourage trolls. The virtual reality-based metaverse removes the ability "to look into the other person's face," Tony Fadell said. "If you put technology between that human connection that's when the toxicity happens," he said. The metaverse is a virtual reality realm where it is envisioned people can create avatars of themselves to interact with others in online worlds. — You know, like the OASIS in “Ready Player One” but without the fun.

A Ken Paxton lawsuit is why Texans can’t access some face filters on Facebook and Instagram right now. Meta, the parent conglomerate of Instagram and Facebook, quietly disabled augmented reality filters on its platforms across the state Wednesday. The move comes two months after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued the California-based company, saying some of the company’s practices and features violated Texans’ privacy. The lawsuit is part of the ongoing conflicts between Texas officials and social media companies. The disabled filters are 3D overlays that change a user’s appearance or add accessories such as hats, facial hair or cartoonish dog ears and snouts. Other Instagram filters that change only lighting or add hues to photos remain available to use.

Moon goes blood red this weekend: ‘Eclipse for the Americas’. A total lunar eclipse will grace the night skies this weekend, providing longer than usual thrills for stargazers across North and South America. The celestial action unfolds Sunday night into early Monday morning, with the moon bathed in the reflected red and orange hues of Earth’s sunsets and sunrises for about 1 1/2 hours, one of the longest totalities of the decade. It will be the first so-called blood moon in a year. -- The universe is bigger than the shit we fight about on our planet.

RIP Fred Ward. He was 79.
