And another day where Tucker Carlson should be held accountable for the shit he says, the lasting effects of having an abortion or being denied one, OK Governor Stitt warns tribes against creating abortion havens, and voting alone won’t fix the problem comes to a close:

“So yes, let’s deal w/the insane access to weapons of war. But don’t say “it’s all about guns.” Because they used to hang us from trees in front of the courthouse. They have killed us w/swords in Manhattan, dragged us behind cars in Jasper, Tx. They have beaten us to death.

“They have chased us into traffic in Howard Beach, and kneeled on our necks in Minneapolis. They’ve run us over with cars. The poison of white supremacy has been attached to every instrumentality of violence. And yes, guns are uniquely deadly, & we must address it urgently.

“But so too is white supremacy. It is used to manipulate elections, to destroy public education, to deny disaster relief, to justify starving babies, to poison communities, to destroy empathy, to deny the truth, to steal land, & has the power to turn people into murderers.

“So let’s all get to work - on addressing gun access for sure. But white ppl must address the spread of white supremacist ideology by politicians, in primetime on cable TV, on the internet, in schools, in your churches and homes. It is a threat to our lives, and to your humanity.

“But white supremacy is also an existential threat to our democracy. It always has been.”

Sherrilyn Ifill

“I spent a decade working in counterterrorism. The rhetoric we are seeing from leaders of my party — the Republican Party — is *directly* fueling violence and a spike in domestic terrorism. This is not a partisan observation. This is a public safety warning.” -- Miles Taylor

“Because it’s not being said in the media, it must be said that the white supremacist in Buffalo, with an AR-15 gun barrel labeled “nigger”paced around the grocery to find Black women that he had injured but not killed. Then went back and shot those Black women in the face.” — Shaun King

“No Democratic candidate for president has won the white vote since Democrat Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Yet Democrats have won the popular vote in 7 of the last 8 presidential elections. Most white Americans vote Republican. No other racial group does.” — Keith Boykin

“We live in two Americans. White men can murder and call for violence. BIPOC can be murdered for any reason.” — Michael Vachmiel

“Just a reminder that House Republicans fired Liz Cheney as Conference Chair for refusing to say that Trump won the election, but shrugged and moved on when Marjorie Taylor Greene spoke at a white nationalist rally. Tells you all you need to know.” -- Andrew Weinstein

The Buffalo shooter's manifesto relied on the same white supremacist conspiracy pushed by Tucker Carlson. Carlson is sure to receive fresh scrutiny in the wake of the Buffalo tragedy. Of course, none of this will prompt any meaningful punishment for the Fox News host. After all, embracing Carlson’s white supremacist views is now the bread and butter for the rest of the GOP. -- Tucker Carlson believes he is untouchable.

After the Buffalo shooting, New York's governor is calling on social media companies to implement algorithms that could alert authorities when users post content showing a desire or plan to kill others.

A landmark study tracks the lasting effect of having an abortion — or being denied one. For over 10 years, Dr. Foster and her team of researchers tracked the experiences of women who'd received abortions or who had been denied them because of clinic policies on gestational age limits. The research team regularly interviewed each of nearly 1,000 study participants for five years and found those who'd been denied abortion experienced worse economic and mental health outcomes than the cohort that received care. And 95% of study participants who received an abortion said they made the right decision.

Support for abortion rights hits new high as midterm outlook is grim for Democrats. 63% oppose overturning Roe v. Wade and Democratic enthusiasm ticks up in a new NBC News poll, but Biden's job approval rating falls to 39% amid economic worries. -- Apparently many Americans are ready to give up our democracy for GOP theocratic authoritarianism. Inflation is happening worldwide and is temporary. Rights, once the GOP takes them away, will be difficult to once again attain.

Nebraska GOP governor says he will call a special session to pass total abortion ban if Roe is overturned. “Nebraska is a pro-life state. I believe life begins at conception, and those are babies too,” Ricketts told CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union” when asked if he thought the state should require a young girl who was raped to carry the pregnancy to term. “If Roe v. Wade, which is a horrible constitutional decision, gets overturned by the Supreme Court, which we’re hopeful of, here in Nebraska, we’re going to take further steps to protect those preborn babies.” “Including in the case of rape or incest?” Bash asked. To which the governor replied: “They’re still babies, too. Yes.”

Oklahoma governor warns tribes not to create abortion havens. More than half of Oklahoma is within tribal lands. Stitt said the expansion of tribal lands in Oklahoma includes the city of Tulsa, which covers about 1 million people, so he is “watching” what might be done to establish abortion safe havens in his state. -- Or what, Stitt? What the fuck are you going to do? Sit down, asshole.

“Voting alone won’t fix it b/c the structures that give the fascist minority disproportionate power are built into the system. W/o some reforms—jettison the filibuster, rebalance the court, make DC a state, nix the Electoral College, end voter suppression—we remain on a dark path.” — Chrissy Stroop

In early primaries, voters favor polling places over mail. Helping drive the reversal is the rollback of temporary rules expanding mail ballots in 2020, combined with distrust of the process among Republicans and concerns about new voting restrictions among Democrats. And a year and a half of former President Donald Trump and his allies pushing false claims about mail voting to explain his loss to Democrat Joe Biden has also taken a toll on voter confidence.

Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.

Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
