And another day of testimony, executive orders, inside looks, WI making it harder to vote, NY gun applicants to hand over social media accounts, AZ limits filming police, teaching ‘both sides’ of the Holocaust, and fighting immigrant raids comes to a close:

Trump WH counsel Cipollone gives 1/6 testimony, new info. Former White House counsel Pat Cipollone “did not contradict” testimony of previous witnesses as he appeared Friday before the Jan. 6 committee, a grueling daylong private session that produced new information to be divulged in future public hearings, one lawmaker said...Lofgren, a committee member, clarified that “not contradicting is not the same as confirming.” In some cases the former White House lawyer was not present for the events described or “couldn’t recall with precision” some details, she said. “He was candid with the committee, he was careful in his answers,” said Lofgren. “And I think we did learn a few things, which we will be rolling out in the hearings to come.“
Impassioned Biden signs order on abortion access. President Joe Biden on Friday condemned the “extreme” Supreme Court majority that ended a constitutional right to abortion and delivered an impassioned plea for Americans upset by the decision to “vote, vote, vote vote” in November. Under mounting pressure from fellow Democrats to be more forceful in response to the ruling, he signed an executive order to try to protect access to the procedure.
Pregnant woman says her fetus should count as a passenger in HOV lanes. She got a ticket. The overturning of the Roe v. Wade ruling has one driver questioning HOV lane laws requiring two passengers in a car.
Steve Bannon's lawyer asks to leave Jan. 6-related case, says he may be witness. Bannon was charged last year with two counts of contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena issued by a House of Representatives committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters. Bannon has refused to provide testimony or documents, citing Trump's claim - rejected by other courts - that the material is protected under a legal doctrine called executive privilege.
Film offers inside look at Roger Stone’s ‘Stop the Steal’ efforts before January 6. As Stone and Alexander mounted their political operation, they allowed their activities to be recorded by two conservative film-makers over several months starting from when they first began to strategize around the time of the election, through to January 6…In following Stone and Alexander, the film-makers recorded most of the key moments in the timeline leading up to the Capitol attack, including an “occupation” of the Georgia state Capitol in November and rallies in Washington that almost seem like dry-runs for January 6. They also caught on camera public and private moments at the events Stone or Alexander attended. Among others who appear in the documentary are the House Republican Paul Gosar, former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, and Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn. — They literally let a camera crew follow them around while they plotted to overthrow the election.
Wisconsin Supreme Court disallows absentee ballot drop boxes. Wisconsin’s conservative-controlled Supreme Court ruled Friday that absentee ballot drop boxes may be placed only in election offices and that no one other than the voter can return a ballot in person, dealing a critical defeat to Democrats in the battleground state. — And the GOP continues to make voting as difficult as possible for voters.
Gun applicants in New York will have to hand over social accounts. People seeking to carry concealed handguns will be required to hand over their social media accounts for a review of their “character and conduct.” — WTF?
In era of transparency, Arizona law limits filming police. Arizona’s governor has signed a law that restricts how the public can video police at a time when there’s growing pressure across the U.S. for greater law enforcement transparency. Civil rights and media groups opposed the measure that Republican Gov. Doug Ducey signed Thursday. The law makes it illegal in Arizona to knowingly video police officers 8 feet (2.5 meters) or closer without an officer’s permission.
Japan’s ex-leader Shinzo Abe assassinated during a speech. Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was assassinated Friday on a street in western Japan by a gunman who opened fire on him from behind as he delivered a campaign speech — an attack that stunned a nation with some of the strictest gun control laws anywhere.
Ohio GOP Looks to Advance Bill That Would Teach ‘Both Sides’ of the Holocaust. Let me start by saying that there are no “both sides” arguments when it comes to the Holocaust. It’s straight-up good vs evil...This is apparently too hard for some Republicans to grasp, and they’ve all decided it’s way easier to push lazy old Antisemitic tropes instead of doing their own research. Not that a tour of the Holocaust Museum changed anything about Marjorie Taylor Greene, but it’s still important to present facts about the Holocaust so that all future generations can learn what really happened. Yes, I know, Republicans are trying to kill public schools to control how all Americans learn, but I can’t do everything in one commentary.
‘I don’t want to live in a society where people are kidnapped from their homes’: the neighbours fighting immigration raids. That was the scariest point of the whole thing; we were aware then that we could have been arrested but what was at the front of our minds was: Don’t be coming to our communities and taking people away who live here.”…These events are such an unfamiliar phenomenon – direct action with an immediate, non-symbolic goal, successful in the moment – that they throw up a lot of questions: how did the movement start and how widespread is it? What does it mean for the hostile environment? What motivates people to gather round a van in such numbers and stay until the job’s done, which often takes hours? Could it be that despite the rhetoric in politics and some quarters of the media, not everyone wants migrants to be grabbed, detained and removed from their communities.

Twitter board vows legal action after Musk drops bid. “The Twitter Board is committed to closing the transaction on the price and terms agreed upon with Mr. Musk and plans to pursue legal action to enforce the merger agreement. We are confident we will prevail in the Delaware Court of Chancery,” the chairman, Bret Taylor, tweeted.
Washington state approved for nearly 400 courses of monkeypox vaccine. The CDC announced plans Friday to distribute the limited amount of vaccine, which is 398 courses or 796 total doses of the 2-dose JYNNEOS vaccine.
Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.
Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
