And another day of student loan forgiveness, the MAGA crusade to take over FL schools, an unredacted Barr memo, most Americans wanting stricter gun laws, food insecurity, whistleblowers, cancer, and psychedelic drugs comes to a close:
"We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship." — George Orwell, 1984

Big student loan forgiveness plan announced by Biden. President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced detailed plans to deliver on a campaign promise to provide $10,000 in student debt cancellation for millions of Americans — and up to $10,000 more for those with the greatest financial need — along with measures to lower the burden of repayment for their remaining federal student debt. Borrowers who earn less than $125,000 a year, or families earning less than $250,000, would be eligible for the $10,000 loan forgiveness, Biden announced. For those who also receive Pell Grants, which are reserved for undergraduates with the most significant financial need, the federal government would cancel up to an additional $10,000 in federal loan debt. — You know none of this would be an issue if funding for higher education hadn’t been almost continuously cut for the past 40 years, forcing tuition to rise. Education is not valued in this country. Forcing people to take out outrageous loans on the promise of a better future which doesn’t always play out is.
Texas judge blocks Biden order requiring hospitals to provide emergency abortions. Trump-appointed judge says US health department overreached in its guidance, in decision issued just before ‘trigger law’ takes effect. The legal effort by the Texas attorney general, Ken Paxton, a stalwart Republican, represents the latest attempt to stop the federal government from influencing the reproductive access landscape in the aftermath of the supreme court’s Dobbs decision, which overturned longstanding constitutional protections on abortion.
Florida Democrats choose Rep. Crist to challenge DeSantis. In selecting Crist on Tuesday, Florida Democrats sided with a candidate backed by many in the party’s establishment who viewed him as the safest choice, even after he lost his previous two statewide elections. The 66-year-old moderate, who served as Florida’s Republican governor a decade ago, hopes to appeal to voters in Florida’s teeming suburbs as Democrats seek to reverse a losing pattern in a state that was recently seen as a perennial political battleground. Above all, the Democratic contest centered on DeSantis, who views his November reelection as a potential springboard into the 2024 presidential contest. Given the stakes, Democrats across Florida and beyond expressed a real sense of urgency to blunt DeSantis’ momentum.
The MAGA Crusade to Take Over of Florida Schools Scored a Big Win on Tuesday. “Parental rights” are to Ron DeSantis what election conspiracies are to Donald Trump: A signature issue reshaping his party. Tuesday’s races were the proving ground for Desantis’ shadow 2024 pitch, with results that showed some promise, if not conclusively so: 16 candidates won outright, while eight advanced to a runoff. As the national media focuses on the win-loss record of Trump-backed candidates, DeSantis has his own. And where Trump’s hand-picked winners are a harbinger of his continued potency among Republicans, DeSantis’ signify something else altogether: His ability to both grow and draft off of a movement…If his candidates can win here, there’s no reason to believe that “parental right” wouldn’t catch on with GOP primary voters in 2024. Sarasota County is a bedrock of Florida conservatism, the sort of place where the GOP base meets the Republican-leaning suburbs. — DeSantis is a threat to democracy.
Republicans vow to investigate Fauci after he steps down in December. Top Republicans in Congress pounced on the news of his planned departure, saying if they retake the majority in the upcoming midterm election, they will grill the nation's leading infectious disease expert about his role during the COVID pandemic. — Trumpers just trying to distract you.
There is no one more disgusting than Ron DeSantis. Here he is proudly spouting his fascism as he talks about Fauci: “I’m sick of seeing him! I know he says he’s gonna retire. Someone needs to grab that little elf and chuck him across the Potomac!”
Justice Department releases unredacted Barr memo detailing decision not to charge Trump with obstructing Russia probe. Former Attorney General Bill Barr concluded that then-President Donald Trump couldn’t be charged with obstructing the Russia probe because there wasn’t an underlying conspiracy between his campaign and Russia, breaking with special counsel Robert Mueller’s view on the matter, according to a newly unredacted memo released by the Justice Department.
Panel: Trump staffers pushed unproven COVID treatment at FDA. Officials in the Trump White House tried to pressure U.S. health experts into reauthorizing a discredited COVID-19 treatment, according to a congressional investigation that provides new evidence of that administration’s efforts to override Food and Drug Administration decisions early in the pandemic. -- Trumpers must never gain control again.
Most in US say they want stricter gun laws. The poll by the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research shows 71% of Americans say gun laws should be stricter, including about half of Republicans, the vast majority of Democrats and a majority of those in gun-owning households.
