And another day of Trump knowing, ID kits for TX school children, Omicron subvariants, changing tax brackets, blocking the student loan forgiveness plan, and community college funding in TX tied to performance comes to a close:

“I’ve got news for President Biden. Come January 22nd, we will have Pro-Life majorities in the House and Senate and we’ll be taking the cause of the right to Life to every state house in America!” — Mike Pence (The Big Lie, MAGA, and Republican parties have shown us who they are. Believe them. Make sure they never gain power in US Government again.)

Trump knew voter fraud claims were wrong, federal judge says as he orders John Eastman emails turned over. “The emails show that President Trump knew that the specific numbers of voter fraud were wrong but continued to tout those numbers, both in court and to the public,” Judge David O. Carter wrote. “The Court finds that these emails are sufficiently related to and in furtherance of a conspiracy to defraud the United States,” he added. -- So why is Trump still allowed to roam free? Arrest him.

Texas students to get ID kits to identify children’s bodies in emergencies. Millions of Texas children will get identification kits designed for parents to collect fingerprints and DNA to be used in case their kids are in an emergency such as a school shooting...Parents do not have to use the kits. But some expressed frustration that the state seemed to be preparing for inevitable child deaths without addressing gun control. Texas governor Greg Abbott, a Republican seeking re-election this year, has fiercely resisted any efforts to limit access to firearms. -- Stop voting for Republicans.

Putin adds martial law in Ukraine regions, limits in Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin doubled down Wednesday on his faltering invasion of Ukraine with a declaration of martial law in four illegally annexed regions and preparations within Russia for draconian new restrictions and crackdowns. Putin’s drastic efforts to tighten his grip on Ukrainians and Russians follow a series of embarrassing setbacks: stinging battlefield defeats, sabotage and troubles with his troop mobilization.

Biden vows abortion legislation as top priority next year. President Joe Biden promised Tuesday that the first bill he sends to Capitol Hill next year will be one that writes abortion protections into law — if Democrats control enough seats in Congress to pass it — as he sought to energize his party’s voters just three weeks ahead of the November midterms.

How Michael Flynn goes local to spread Christian nationalism. “These ‘woke’ members need to be defeated in detail this upcoming election,” Michael Flynn posted on Telegram on Aug. 6. “Our children’s lives and futures are at risk when our school boards here in Florida and around the nation shove (critical race theory) and transgender nonsense down their throats.” A few days later, the retired three-star Army general who spent decades enmeshed in international conflict weighed in again on the local election: “‘WOKE’ SOBs operating in many counties and on many school boards across the country” have to be voted out or censured “and some just need to be arrested.” -- Fuck off, Flynn. What a waste of human flesh.

Omicron subvariants reflect a 'viral evolution on steroids'. An omicron subvariant is once again demonstrating immune-dodging abilities, posing a threat to both vaccinated and previously infected individuals. These subvariants are far from the only strains that experts worldwide are keeping their eyes on. Other omicron subvariants that have piqued the interest — and concerns — of scientists read like a viral alphabet soup: BQ.1, BQ.1.1, BF.7. (Those three, as it turns out, each account for around 5% of new U.S. cases.) Gone are the days of identifying Covid by Greek letters, such as alpha and delta. Ever since the omicron variant emerged, it's been omicron all the way down, with omicron subvariants splitting off into their own subvariants. "It's astonishing to see how the virus keeps mutating at such a rapid rate," said study author Dr. Dan Barouch, director of the Center for Virology and Vaccine Research at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. "This is essentially viral evolution on steroids."

COVID-19 linked to increase in US pregnancy-related deaths. COVID-19 drove a dramatic increase in the number of women who died from pregnancy or childbirth complications in the U.S. last year, a crisis that has disproportionately claimed Black and Hispanic women as victims, according to a report released Wednesday. The report lays out grim trends across the country for expectant mothers and their newborn babies.

America's tax brackets are changing thanks to inflation. That may be good news if you didn't get a raise this year. Tax brackets move alongside the inflation rate, meaning the amount of tax you pay on your income gradually shifts in normal times. But the persistently high inflation consumers have been facing this year is anything but normal, so the tax brackets are moving up to offset that. The good news is, if your wages haven't risen enough, you'll likely fall into a lower tax bracket in 2023.

Iranian schoolgirl ‘beaten to death for refusing to sing’ pro-regime anthem. According to the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations, 16-year-old Asra Panahi died after security forces raided the Shahed girls high school in Ardabil on 13 October and demanded a group of girls sing an anthem that praises Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. When they refused, security forces beat the pupils, leading to a number of girls being taken to hospital and others arrested. On Friday, Panahi reportedly died in hospital of injuries sustained at the school.

Women in leadership are leaning out (and into a better job). Women in leadership, which includes people who are senior managers all the way up to the C-suite, are leaving their jobs at the highest rate — 10.5 percent last year, compared to 9 percent for men — since McKinsey and LeanIn started collecting attrition data from companies five years ago. The gap between men and women leaders leaving is also the highest it’s ever been…Women are not breaking up with work,” said LeanIn.Org co-founder and CEO Rachel Thomas, who co-authored the report. “They’re breaking up with their companies if they’re not delivering the work experience, and some of the cultural elements of work that are critically important to them.” These women have been leaving for a variety of reasons. One is money, since they still make less of it than men. They want better opportunities for advancement than at their current workplace. They also want flexibility. Women are much more likely than men to want to work from home since they have inordinate child care duties and generally report a worse experience than men in the office.

Everything to know to apply for student loan forgiveness. President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness program. announced in August, will cancel up to $20,000 in debt per borrower. The application process is now open, and the administration says the forms should take five minutes to complete.

Wisconsin group asks Supreme Court to block Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan. The request was filed to Justice Amy Coney Barrett, who has jurisdiction over the lower court that ruled on the case. She is likely to refer the matter to the full court.

Texas commission recommends tying community colleges’ state funding to their performance. A commission charged by the Texas Legislature to suggest new ways of financing the state’s community colleges unanimously approved its recommendation Tuesday that lawmakers tie state funding to how successful schools are at getting students to graduate or transfer to four-year universities.

Race gap seen in US infant deaths after fertility treatment. The steep cost of IVF and the scarcity of insurance coverage means women getting fertility care are wealthier on average. The findings suggest women seeking fertility treatment are not protected from racism despite their relative affluence, said Dr. Cynthia Gyamfi-Bannerman, head of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California San Diego medical school.

Missouri school to close after radioactive waste report. A Missouri school board decided Tuesday to shut down a grade school that sits near a contaminated creek after a study funded by law firms involved in a class-action lawsuit found high levels of radioactive material inside the school.

Florida sees rise in flesh-eating bacterial infections. Florida has seen an increase in cases of flesh-eating bacteria this year driven largely by a surge in the county hit hardest by Hurricane Ian. The state Department of Health reports that as of Friday there have been 65 cases of vibrio vulnificus infections and 11 deaths in Florida this year. That compares with 34 cases and 10 deaths reported during all of 2021.

Poor, less white US neighborhoods get worst internet deals. The Markup gathered and analyzed more than 800,000 internet service offers from AT&T, Verizon, Earthlink, and CenturyLink in 38 cities across America and found that all four routinely offered fast base speeds at or above 200 Mbps in some neighborhoods for the same price as connections below 25 Mbps in others. The neighborhoods offered the worst deals had lower median incomes in nine out of 10 cities in the analysis. In two-thirds of the cities where The Markup had enough data to compare, the providers gave the worst offers to the least white neighborhoods. -- Almost everything boils down to racism.

Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.

Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
