And another day of ‘homophobic’ campaign ads, Moms for Liberty, Musk BS, racism and police brutality in France, climate change and the ‘new abnormal,’ Apple worth $3B, and Harvard to use an AI instructor next semester comes to a close:

"The Supreme Court is the Fox News of justice." — Jon Stewart

An anti-Trump video shared by the DeSantis campaign is ‘homophobic,’ says a conservative LGBT group. The video then suddenly veers in a different direction, accompanied by dark, thumping music and images of DeSantis, the Florida governor who is trailing Trump by wide margins in the polls for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. It promotes headlines that DeSantis signed “the most extreme slate of anti-trans laws in modern history” and a “draconian anti-trans bathroom bill.” The images are spliced together with footage of muscular, shirtless men and several Hollywood actors, including Brad Pitt, seen wearing a leather mask from the movie “Troy.” “To wrap up ‘Pride Month,’ let’s hear from the politician who did more than any other Republican to celebrate it,” the DeSantis campaign tweeted. -- Both DeFascist and Trump are relying on hatred towards marginalized groups to carry them to victory. They must be stopped. HIstory has shown us where this goes.

‘Never apologize’: How Moms for Liberty teaches its members to spin the media. “Never apologize. Ever,” Christian Ziegler, the chairman of the Florida Republican Party, said. “This is my view. Other people have different views on this. I think apologizing makes you weak.”...Moms for Liberty says it is nonpartisan, but it has grown into a conservative powerhouse, boasting of some 120,000 members in 285 chapters across 44 states. The group started in Brevard County, Florida, in 2021, initially as a way to fight Covid restrictions and mask mandates. It has since morphed into a sprawling organization that aims to fight for what it sees as parental rights but that critics, including the left-leaning Southern Poverty Law Center, label anti-government extremism. Its members have removed books that they deem inappropriate from public school libraries and have pushed to end what they see as the “indoctrination” of children on such topics as race, gender and sexuality. -- ‘Apologizing makes you weak’? Fuck off. What hateful people. Moms for Liberty is just dressed up Fascism. But make no mistake about it. They are fascists..

"Let me set the record straight: Moms for Liberty is NOT a group of “joyful warriors,” nor are they “fighting” for a just cause. They are a fascist, far-right extremist group that has NO place in our society. ABC’s description & normalization of them is why our media fails us." — Victor Shi

Elon Musk imposes daily limits on reading posts on Twitter. Twitter owner Elon Musk has limited the number of tweets that users can view each day — restrictions he described as an attempt to prevent unauthorized scraping of potentially valuable data from the social media platform. The site is now requiring people to log on to view tweets and profiles — a change in its longtime practice to allow everyone to peruse the chatter on what Musk has frequently touted as the world’s digital town square since buying it for $44 billion last year. -- I hate Elon Musk.

Shooting in France shows US is not alone in struggles with racism, police brutality. Despite the differences between the two countries’ cultures, police forces and communities, the shooting in France and the outcry that erupted there this week laid bare how the U.S. is not alone in its struggles with systemic racism and police brutality...Unlike the U.S., France does not keep any data on race and ethnicity as part of its doctrine of colorblind universalism — an approach purporting to see everyone as equal citizens. Critics say that doctrine has masked generations of systemic racism.

Climate change keeps making wildfires and smoke worse. Scientists call it the ‘new abnormal’. As Earth’s climate continues to change from heat-trapping gasses spewed into the air, ever fewer people are out of reach from the billowing and deadly fingers of wildfire smoke, scientists say. Already wildfires are consuming three times more of the United States and Canada each year than in the 1980s and studies predict fire and smoke to worsen...“Is this a new normal? No, it’s a new abnormal,” University of Pennsylvania climate scientist Michael Mann said. “It continues to get worse. If we continue to warm the planet, we don’t settle into some new state. It’s an ever-moving baseline of worse and worse.” It’s so bad that perhaps the term “wildfire” also needs to be rethought, suggested Woodwell Climate Research Center senior scientist Jennifer Francis. “We can’t really call them wildfires anymore,” Francis said. “To some extent they’re just not, they’re not wild. They’re not natural anymore. We are just making them more likely. We’re making them more intense.”

Thousands of hotel workers in Southern California are on strike, demanding better pay and benefits. Cooks, room attendants, dishwashers, servers, bellmen and front desk agents at hotels were picketing outside major hotels in Los Angeles and Orange counties just as the summer tourist is ramping up. Last month, members of Unite Here Local 11 voted 96% in favor of authorizing the strike. The union is seeking better wages, improved healthcare benefits, higher pension contributions and less strenuous workloads.

Harvard announces it will teach students using an artificial intelligence instructor next semester. 'Our own hope is that, through AI, we can eventually approximate a 1:1 teacher:student ratio for every student in CS50... providing them with software-based tools that, 24/7, can support their learning at a pace and in a style that works best for them individually.'

As acceptance rates decline, students bill themselves as admissions experts. Kelsey Hoskin charges students $675 for an hour-long, private college admissions strategy Zoom session. And students are paying…As acceptance rates at selective universities seemingly hit record lows each year, anxiety over the college admissions process only continues to increase, inspiring students to turn to fellow students for advice. For the Class of 2027, Yale University reported it's largest-ever pool of applicants, with only a 4.35% acceptance rate, the lowest in its history…The prices charged by student college admissions consultants vary, though many of them are cheaper than private consultants with decades of experience. Influencers like Hoskin, who have access to hundreds of thousands of social media followers, can charge more than students promoting services just within their local communities.

Apple is now worth $3 trillion, boosted by the Nasdaq’s best start in 40 years. Apple’s stock ended trading Friday valued at $3 trillion, the only company ever to reach that milestone. It has been riding a Big Tech stock wave that has given the Nasdaq its best first half gain in 40 years.

Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.

Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
