And another day of defending videos, political segregation, uncharted territory, tap water contaminated with ‘forever chemicals,’ a new Alzheimer’s drug, high BMI, and in Canada the ‘thumbs-up’ emoji represents contractual agreement comes to a close:

“The longer I live, the more convinced am I that this planet is used by other planets as a lunatic asylum.” — George Bernard Shaw

Ron DeSantis defends video going after Trump on LGBTQ issues: ‘Totally fair game’. The video, which was shared by the DeSantis campaign, has been criticized by both Democrats and Republicans as being "homophobic." The video, shared on Twitter by the DeSantis campaign’s rapid response arm Friday, attacks Trump from the right and portrays him as a booster of LGBTQ rights. It features a clip of Trump saying he would “do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens” in a speech at the 2016 Republican National Convention — which took place shortly after the mass shooting at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando in DeSantis’ own state — and shows pictures of Trump with Caitlyn Jenner, the prominent trans Olympian-turned-celebrity.  The second part of the video attempts to depict DeSantis as a more masculine figure, showing headlines of his actions restricting LGBTQ rights, accompanied by pumping music and photos of muscular men...DeSantis has been vocal about his push to restrict LGBTQ rights. -- Make no mistake about it. DeFascist (like all fascists) does not believe all Americans should be treated equally. He has shown who is. Believe your eyes and ears.

Conservatives go to red states and liberals go to blue as the country grows more polarized. Americans are segregating by their politics at a rapid clip, helping fuel the greatest divide between the states in modern history...Federalism — allowing each state to chart its own course within boundaries set by Congress and the Constitution — is at the core of the U.S. system. It lets the states, in the words of former Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis, be “laboratories of democracy.” Now, some wonder whether that’s driving Americans apart.

Recent events that indicate Earth’s climate has entered uncharted territory. As a warming Earth simmered into worrisome new territory this week, scientists said the unofficial records being set for average planetary temperature were a clear sign of how pollutants released by humans are warming their environment. But the heat is also just one way the planet is telling us something is gravely wrong, they said...“The increasing heating of our planet caused by fossil fuel use is not unexpected, but it is dangerous for us humans and for the ecosystems we depend on. We need to stop it, fast.”

How hot is too hot for survival? Researchers cranked up the temperature on volunteers to find out. As a deadly heat wave continues to ravage the U.S., new evidence suggests the human body may stop functioning optimally when outside temperatures climb to 104 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit...When that happens, people may start to breathe more heavily and their heart rates can go up. Once a person's body can no longer get rid of excess heat — a condition known as “heat stress” — the core temperature rises. That can result in confusion, nausea, dizziness, headache or fainting.

Nearly half of the tap water in the US is contaminated with ‘forever chemicals,’ government study finds. The number of people drinking contaminated water may be even higher than what the study found, however, because the researchers weren’t able to test for all of these per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances, or PFAS, chemicals that are considered dangerous to human health.

Deforestation in the Amazon has dropped 34%, reversing trend under Bolsonaro. While the data is an encouraging sign for President Lula, who campaigned on pledges to rein in illegal logging, officials stressed that challenges remain.

Ransomware criminals are dumping kids’ private files online after school hacks. The confidential documents stolen from schools and dumped online by ransomware gangs are raw, intimate and graphic. They describe student sexual assaults, psychiatric hospitalizations, abusive parents, truancy — even suicide attempts...Complete sexual assault case folios containing these details were among more than 300,000 files dumped online in March after the 36,000-student Minneapolis Public Schools refused to pay a $1 million ransom. Other exposed data included medical records, discrimination complaints, Social Security numbers and contact information of district employees...The lasting legacy of school ransomware attacks, it turns out, is not in school closures, recovery costs or even soaring cyberinsurance premiums. It is the trauma for staff, students and parents from the online exposure of private records — which the AP found on the open internet and dark web.

Here’s what Americans say they need to earn to feel rich, or even just financially secure. More than 2,500 US adults said they would need to earn, on average, $233,000 a year to feel financially secure and $483,000 annually to feel rich or to attain financial freedom, according to a new survey from Bankrate. Just for comparison’s sake, the median earnings for a full-time, year-round worker in 2021 was $56,473, according to the US Census Bureau.

Twitter accuses Meta of stealing trade secrets for its new Threads app. “No one on the Threads engineering team is a former Twitter employee,” Andy Stone, Meta communications director, posted on Threads. “That’s just not a thing.”

FDA grants full approval to new Alzheimer's drug meant to slow disease. The move marks the first time that a drug meant to slow the progression of the disease has been granted full regulatory approval. Other approved drugs only target its symptoms. "I don't think we can understate the significance of this moment.”..."While patients still do decline on the drug, the decline is slowed," Wilcock said. Dr. Ronald Petersen, a neurologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, said in an email that Leqembi is not a cure, nor does it stop the disease...In its approval, the FDA included its strongest warning label — called a boxed warning — about these particular side effects, noting that they can lead to seizures and death.

A high BMI is not necessarily associated with a higher risk of death, study finds. A body mass index in the range considered overweight, or even obese, is not necessarily associated with a higher risk of death, a new study has found. The research is the latest addition to a growing body of evidence that suggests BMI alone is not an accurate indicator of a person's health.

Canadian judge rules thumbs-up emoji can represent contract agreement. A Canadian judge has ruled that the “thumbs-up” emoji is just as valid as a signature, arguing that courts need to adapt to the “new reality” of how people communicate as he ordered a farmer to pay C$82,000 ($61,442) for an unfulfilled contract.

The Leader of the JFK-QAnon Cult Is Dead. His Followers Think It’s All Part of the Plan. The leader of a QAnon cult who convinced thousands of people that former president John F. Kennedy and his son JFK, Jr. are still alive has died...Protzman rose to notoriety in 2021, when the Telegram channel he ran garnered tens of thousands of followers. In that channel, Protzman mixed QAnon conspiracies with a bastardized version of Gematria, a Jewish numerology system, which he claimed to be able to use to predict the future...Numerous followers abandoned their families and spent their life savings following Protzman. -- Always be on the lookout for charlatans.

Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.

Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
