And another day of enough delegates, MAGA attacking DEI, resignations, ‘lifetime suicidal ideation,’ ‘doomism,’ the Kids Online Safety Act, blind Barbie, ‘dark’ oxygen, and cocaine sharks comes to a close:

“We shouldn’t be satisfied just to beat Trump.  MAGA needs to be voted into oblivion.: -- Tea Pain

Project 2025 Goal:

“Pornography should be outlawed. The people who produce and distribute it should

be imprisoned. Educators and public librarians who purvey it should be classed

as registered sex offenders. And telecommunications and technology firms that

facilitate its spread should be shuttered.” -- Page 5

Project 2025 Goal:

“But the Dobbs decision is just the beginning. Conservatives in the states

and in Washington, including in the next conservative Administration, should

push as hard as possible to protect the unborn in every jurisdiction in America.” -- Page 6

Project 2025 Goal:

“No public education employee or contractor shall use a name to address a student other than the name listed on a student’s birth certificate, without the written permission of a student’s parents or guardians.” -- Page 346

Harris claims most of the delegates she needs for the nomination, sets new fundraising record. Aiming to put weeks of intraparty drama over President Joe Biden’s prospects behind them, prominent Democratic elected officials, party leaders and political organizations quickly lined up behind Harris. Worries over Biden’s fitness for office were replaced by fresh signs of unity after a seismic shift to the presidential contest that upended both major political parties’ carefully honed plans for the 2024 race.

Conservatives use shooting at Trump rally to attack DEI efforts at Secret Service. As Congressional members on both sides of the aisle grilled U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle Monday on how a gunman was able to fire shots at former President Donald Trump in an assassination attempt, several Republican lawmakers seized on gender and the agency’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts as among the reasons for the security failure...“There should not be any women in the Secret Service. These are supposed to be the very best, and none of the very best at this job are women,” conservative political commentator Matt Walsh posted on X the morning after the assassination attempt. “If there’s a woman doing a job like this, it 100 percent means that a more qualified male was passed over.” -- There is just so much trash in the MAGA Party.

Secret Service director steps down, heeding calls to quit after Trump assassination attempt. Both Republican and Democratic lawmakers had demanded the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle after a contentious hearing on Monday.

In Texas, violating campaign ethics laws rarely yields repercussions. The attorney general’s office is to blame. The number of fines for breaking state campaign ethics laws has exploded in recent years as Ken Paxton’s office rarely pursues stricter enforcement.

Gun violence tied to ‘lifetime suicidal ideation and behavior’ among Black adults – study. Direct and indirect exposures to gun violence, like hearing gunshots near the home or the slaying of friends or classmates, can lead to “lifetime suicidal ideation and behavior” among Black adults, a February study conducted by researchers from Rutgers University and published in Jama Network Open, a journal from the American Medical Association, shows.

Iowa law banning most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy to take effect Monday. An Iowa judge has ruled the state’s strict abortion law will take effect Monday, preventing most abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy, before many women know they are pregnant.

Violence against women, girls at ‘epidemic’ levels: UK police. The report, released on Tuesday by the UK’s National Police Chiefs’ Council and the College of Policing, found that violence against women and girls made up about 20 percent of all reported crime in England and Wales from 2022 to 2023. It said one in every six murders in England and Wales during the period was related to domestic abuse. Based on the data, at least one in every 12 women will be a victim each year of gender-based violent crimes, including rape, stalking, harassment and online sexual abuse, according to the report. The number is likely to be higher due to unreported crimes, Deputy Chief Constable Maggie Blyth said.

Beset with ‘doomism,’ some Gen Z children of immigrants are giving up on the American dream. Their parents may have moved to the U.S. in pursuit of the American dream, but some first-generation Gen Z Americans say they feel hopeless and a sense of doom. Rather than a land of promise, they said, they see skyrocketing costs of living and health care, as well as loads of student debt and a chaotic political system. And just one generation in, some first-generation Americans said they’re moving out of the U.S. or seriously considering it. But the decision isn’t an easy one and often comes with a combination of exhaustion, isolation, courage and a healthy dose of guilt over leaving the place their parents worked so hard to make home.

What to know about the Kids Online Safety Act and its chances of passing. What would KOSA do? If passed, KOSA would create a “duty of care” — a legal term that requires companies to take reasonable steps to prevent harm — for online platforms minors will likely use. They would have to “prevent and mitigate” harms to children, including bullying and violence, the promotion of suicide, eating disorders, substance abuse, sexual exploitation and advertisements for illegal products such as narcotics, tobacco or alcohol. Social media platforms would also have to provide minors with options to protect their information, disable addictive product features, and opt out of personalized algorithmic recommendations. They would also be required to limit other users from communicating with children and limit features that “increase, sustain, or extend the use” of the platform — such as autoplay for videos or platform rewards. In general, online platforms would have to default to the safest settings possible for accounts it believes belong to minors.

Sunday was the hottest day ever recorded on Earth. The average global temperature reached 17.09 degrees Celsius, or about 62.76 Fahrenheit, which is just above the record of 17.08 C set on July 6, 2023. “We are now in truly uncharted territory and as the climate keeps warming, we are bound to see new records being broken in future months and years.”

It’s becoming harder to get — and keep — a car. Cars or trucks are lifelines for many Americans, but after three-plus years of painfully high inflation and now a slowing economy, they’ve become liabilities. Delinquencies are climbing at rates not seen since the Great Recession, defaults have grown and repossessions have jumped 23% from last year, new Cox Automotive data shows. And buying a car is no cakewalk either: Credit is increasingly harder to come by and rejection rates are spiking.

Americans are flocking to Texas: 9 of the 10 fastest-growing U.S. cities are there. The population growth in many Texas towns may be attributed, at least in part, to the state’s relatively lower cost of living compared with many other states, plus its lack of personal income tax. Texas also ranked No. 3 in the nation in CNBC’s 2024 top states for business rankings.

First blind Barbie doll released, with tactile features and a cane. The doll’s clothes have been designed using tactile fabric, such as a satiny blouse and a textured ruffle skirt, and have brightly colored hook fasteners to make swapping them more accessible, while the packaging features braille writing.

Arizona officials warning about spread of potentially fatal hantavirus. There’s no specific treatment or vaccine to protect against the infection.

Sharks off Brazil coast test positive for cocaine. Marine biologists tested 13 Brazilian sharpnose sharks taken from the shores near Rio de Janeiro and found they tested for high levels of cocaine in their muscles and livers. The concentrations were as much as 100 times higher than previously reported for other aquatic creatures.

Scientists discover ‘dark’ oxygen being produced more than 13,000 feet below the ocean surface. Photosynthetic organisms such as plants, plankton and algae use sunlight to produce oxygen that cycles into the ocean depths, but previous studies conducted in the deep sea have shown that oxygen is only consumed, not produced, by the organisms that live there, Sweetman said. Now, his team’s research is challenging this long-held assumption, finding oxygen produced without photosynthesis.

To escape all the above chaos you just read, tune in to 99.9 Waiting for the Comet. The songs you love. The songs you forgot you love. And the songs you don’t yet know you love.

Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.

Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
