And another day of shaking my head at the things that go on in this world comes to a close:

“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” -- Lord Acton

A new, huge review of gun research has bad news for the NRA. Two major conclusions: 1) Gun control leads to fewer deaths, and 2) More research is needed, starting with lifting the (NRA-backed) federal funding freeze on gun studies. So you know: “after research on gun violence in the 1990s found that firearms do not — contrary to NRA talking points — make people safer, the [NRA] backed a federal funding freeze on gun policy research. And the country has suffered ever since.

9 Crucial Facts From the Largest Study on Gun Violence in Years. It’s a quick read. Check ‘em out.

Trump asking John Kelly for help in pushing Ivanka, Kushner out of White House. Hmmm.

Evidence against Russians might never see the light of day.

Trump on China's Xi consolidating power: “He's now president for life. President for life. No, he's great. And look, he was able to do that. I think it's great. Maybe we'll have to give that a shot some day." I blame every person that voted for this poor excuse for human for the mess we’re in. Every single one of them.

Lindsey Graham on a war with North Korea: “All the damage that would come from a war would be worth it in terms of long-term stability and national security.” Nut. Job. This kind of thinking is reckless and dangerous. He needs to go.

NRA's Dana Loesch: Raising rifle age limit is 'punishing the 19-year-old deer hunter'.

Vote on bill to outlaw child marriage in Kentucky delayed after opposition from conservative Family Foundation. “Under the current law in Kentucky, 16 and 17-year-olds can marry with their parents’ permission, and a girl of any age under 16 can marry as long as they are pregnant and marrying the expectant father. Likewise, a boy of any age can marry a woman that he impregnates under the current law.” WTF? This is disgusting. Think about it. You know it’s disgusting and ripe for abuse. This shit must be stopped. “This is the legalized rape of children,” said Recktenwald. “We cannot allow that to continue in Kentucky and I cannot believe we are even debating this in the year 2018 in the United States.”

This is not unique to Kentucky. More than 200,000 children have been married in the US over the last 15 years. “Girls as young as 10 were among the minors who wedded under legal loopholes.” Read the article. The facts are amazing. Child marriage is legal in America, usually under the guise of religion. This must be stopped.

A tiny Nebraska startup awarded the first border wall construction project under Trump is the offshoot of a construction firm that was sued repeatedly for failing to pay subcontractors and accused in a 2016 government audit of shady billing practices. Not only is the wall stupid, it looks like it is being used as a front to award money for purposes other than “national security.” Just saying.

West Virginia Senate votes to decrease proposed pay hike for striking teachers. West Virginia teachers have been on strike for the past week and shows no sign of ending.

Parched South Africa City Struggles to Avoid ‘Day Zero’: Water Shutdown. “Since Feb. 1, Capetonians have lived with some of the most stringent municipal water restrictions on earth—13.2 gallons per person a day, enough on average for a 2-minute shower and three toilet flushes.”

According to the World Resources Institute, if 30 percent of the beef in every day burger in America were replaced by mushrooms, it would reduce greenhouse emissions by the same amount as taking 2.3 million vehicles off of our roads.

The Trump Administration Just Attacked Birth Control Access. How any woman supports the Trump administration, or the GOP in general, is beyond me.
