And another day of FL banning ‘social justice’ in textbooks, a secret list of abusers, you bankrolling Fox News, and more proof that we should never forget Republicans actively and proudly go out of their way to enable mass shooters comes to a depressing close:

“It's time we stop. Hey, what's that sound? Everybody look, what's going down?” -- Buffalo Springfield

“Republicans were horrified today when they thought we'd lost 14 embryos in Texas. They were later greatly relieved to learn it was only 14 sentient children, murdered in school with the guns they can't stop fighting for. Life: Come and Take It.” -- John Pavlovitz

“Republicans in 36+ states have adopted or introduced laws/policies  to “protect” kids from learning about race/racism (“CRT”), and exactly zero of them will support any legislation to protect kids from guns after 14 kids were murdered in their elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.” -- Caroline Orr Bueno

“Where are all the fucking good guys with guns?” -- rabia O’chaudry

Gunman kills at least 18 children at Texas elementary school. An 18-year-old gunman opened fire Tuesday at a Texas elementary school, killing at least 18 children as he went from classroom to classroom, officials said, in the latest gruesome moment for a country scarred by a string of massacres. The attacker was killed by law enforcement. The death toll also included three adults, according to state Sen. Roland Gutierrez, who said he had been briefed by state police. But it was not immediately clear whether that number included the attacker, or how many people were wounded. -- And as with Sandy Hook, the Robb Elementary massacre will not change Republican perception of gun laws either. It’s like Republicans want these massacres to continue. Fuck those thoughts and prayers. And never forget, Republicans actively and proudly go out of their way to enable mass shooters.

Confronted with mass shootings, Texas Republicans have repeatedly loosened gun laws. Gov. Greg Abbott and other Republican leaders signaled an openness to some gun restrictions after recent mass shootings. But in the last several years, lawmakers have eased gun laws, most notably by passing a permitless carry bill last year.

“Texans own among the most guns per capita of any state. If more guns and fewer laws made Texas safer, it would be the safest state with declining rates of gun violence, but it has high rates of gun suicide and homicide, and is home to four of the 10 deadliest mass shootings.” -- Shannon Watts

“Dear Democrats: your opponents have spent a LOT of time, energy, resources and money into banning books and making sure kids don’t hear about slavery and gay people, all while making sure anyone can get a gun. The GOP is a national threat.” -- George Hahn

“When the 2nd Amendment was ratified, it took an average of 1-2 minutes to reload a flintlock rifle for each shot.” -- Ron Filipkowski

Ukraine: 200 bodies found in basement in Mariupol’s ruins. Workers digging through the rubble of an apartment building in Mariupol found 200 bodies in the basement, Ukrainian authorities said Tuesday, as more horrors come to light in the ruined city that has seen some of the worst suffering of the 3-month-old war. The bodies were decomposing and the stench hung over the neighborhood, said Petro Andryushchenko, an adviser to the mayor. He did not say when they were discovered, but the sheer number of victims makes it one of the deadliest known attacks of the war.

Kemp wins Georgia GOP gov’s race in stinging rebuke of Trump. Gov. Brian Kemp of Georgia easily dispatched with Donald Trump’s hand-picked challenger on Tuesday in a Republican primary that demonstrated the limits of the former president and his conspiracy-fueled politics in a critical swing state.

US Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene wins GOP primary in Georgia. A defiant U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene easily defeated five fellow Republicans on Tuesday in a primary race that showed her conservative Georgia constituents standing steadfastly beside her after a turbulent freshman term.

Florida Is Banning “Social Justice” From its K-12 Textbooks. Florida textbooks may no longer teach “social justice,” according to new state guidance, part of Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ ongoing attack on pluralistic democracy. The guidance, which was recently updated but is undated, states that “social justice” is now one of the topics that are prohibited in state-approved textbooks for K-12 social studies classes. According to Politico, which reported on the new criteria, textbook publishers have until June 10 to submit social studies proposals. The DeSantis administration recently rejected math textbooks for including “impermissible” topics—a warning shot to publishers that the state will make political hay by rejecting textbooks with even a hint at the fact that America is not a perfectly fair, racism-free country. Social justice generally refers to the movement for equality in American society and against unfair treatment and unequal opportunities, and is often associated with movements against racism, sexism, and anti-LBGTQ rights. Clearly, Florida Republicans want to keep such movements out of Florida classrooms. The new rules do not actually define social justice but merely include three prohibited ideas:…Under this definition of social justice, Florida textbooks cannot actually explain or acknowledge that some people in society receive better treatment and advantages than others. Because the guidance leaves the scope of social justice open-ended, publishers will likely go beyond this definition in order to meet the state’s new criteria. The guidance also bans inclusion of critical race theory, social and emotional learning, and “any other unsolicited theories that may lead to student indoctrination”—using a broad approach to suppress any attempt to acknowledge the ongoing presence of discrimination. The list of topics included under the CRT prohibition makes clear that Florida classrooms must not acknowledge that there is any lasting effect from slavery, Jim Crow, or other forms of oppression in American life. Complying textbooks would have to convey that any pesky problems like racism and segregation have been solved. — The Republican Party has fully embraced fascism. It must be defeated and destroyed.

Indiana lawmakers enact trans sports ban with veto override. Republican lawmakers in Indiana voted Tuesday to override the GOP governor’s veto of a bill banning transgender females from competing in girls school sports and join about more than a dozen other states adopting similar laws in the past two years.

Christian university proposes limiting expressions of gender and sexuality. A private Christian University in Tennessee has proposed restricting how students express their sexuality and gender on campus. Under the proposed policy at Lee University, students are not allowed to identify or dress as a gender that differs from their “biological sex,” or sex assigned at birth, which includes requesting new pronouns. Students are also banned from speaking out against the restrictions, according to a leaked draft obtained by WTVC-TV in Tennessee. The policies, which are scheduled to go into effect during the fall semester, also prohibit heterosexual sex outside of marriage and displays of affection in same-sex relationships...“I’m really scared for my peers, my queer friends that are still over there,” St. Hubert, 22, told NBC News. “If I were still on campus today, I would have to go by my dead name. I would have to use she/her pronouns and I would have to present as a woman, which I am not.” -- Patriarchal authoritarian bullshit.

Top Southern Baptists plan to release secret list of abusers. Top administrative leaders for the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in America, said Tuesday that they will release a secret list of hundreds of pastors and other church-affiliated personnel accused of sexual abuse. An attorney for the SBC’s Executive Committee announced the decision during a virtual meeting called in response to a scathing investigative report detailing how the committee mishandled allegations of sex abuse and stonewalled numerous survivors. The committee anticipates releasing the list Thursday.

How goods made with forced labor end up in your local American store. Far out in China's western region of Xinjiang, authorities have imprisoned thousands of people from the Uyghur ethnic minority without legal justification. They've also coerced thousands of Uyghurs into state or factory jobs. China says these efforts are their attempts to combat terrorism in the region and promote economic growth. And countries including the U.S buy millions of dollars worth of goods exported from Xinjiang every year. But a new report from C4ADS, a nonprofit data analysis group based in Washington, says those goods that consumers worldwide are buying could be made with forced labor.

Tucker Carlson's Fox News host salary is bankrolled by you. This isn’t about canceling Fox; it’s about using our wallets to have an impact on issues that matter. If you pay for any basic cable package, you are helping fund everything that Fox News airs, from its misleading information about Covid vaccines (which prompted me to start a campaign in July urging people to file a complaint against Fox News with the Federal Trade Commission) to its 2020 election conspiracies. That’s because every month built into your cable bill is a fee (an average of $2 a month) that goes to Fox News — including the salaries of Carlson, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and others. That’s right, only about 3 million Americans watch Fox News on a daily basis yet the nation’s estimated 65 million cable-connected households are forced to fund Fox News, allowing Fox to reap an estimated $1.8 billion in revenue per year in carriage fees…If people want to watch Fox News broadcast its rancid red meat, they should be able to. That’s freedom. But freedom is also not forcing the 62 million households who don’t partake to subsidize Fox News’ right-wing propaganda. Given how much the right tells us they love “freedom,” they should support this quest…Because Fox News reaps nearly $2 billion in revenue from its carriage fees, the outlet is in essence immunized from advertiser boycotts that could help us rein in its vileness…If you want Fox News, then you should pay a monthly fee to watch it like you do with HBO. The rest of us who don’t want to subscribe to Fox News should not be forced to pay a premium fee for a channel we want nothing to do with. If you want your freedom from Fox News because you are disgusted by being compelled to pay Tucker Carlson’s salary, call your cable company and demand that it offer you a package that excludes the network — and therefore the monthly Fox News “tax.” — I recommend cutting cable altogether.

Billie Eilish has revealed that living with Tourette's Syndrome (TS) can be "very exhausting", in a new interview. The 20-year-old experienced an on-camera tic when speaking on David Letterman's My Next Guest show on Netflix. "If you film me for long enough, you're going to see lots of tics," she said…TS is a condition that causes a person to make involuntary sounds and movements called tics…And she admitted people don't always react in a good way when she experiences a tic. "The most common way that people react is they laugh because they think I'm trying to be funny. I'm always left incredibly offended by that," she said.

Delaware governor vetoes marijuana legalization. Delaware Gov. John Carney (D) on Tuesday vetoed legislation that would have legalized possession of small amounts of marijuana, setting up a potential showdown with legislators who might try to force the measure into law over his objections. -- Fucking idiot.

NASA recorded a black hole’s song, and you can listen to it. Earlier this month, NASA released the first recordings, or sonifications, of what two black holes sound like—and it’s just the kind of noise astronomers and science fiction buffs were expecting: eerie, ethereal, and aurally extraordinary.

Jimi Hendrix's penis cast to be displayed in Iceland's penis museum. A cast of Jimi Hendrix's 'member', made by the late Cynthia "Plaster Caster" Albritton, is to be unveiled at the Icelandic Phallological Museum.

Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.

Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
