And another day of TX trying to scrub abortion from its internet, FL aiming to require bloggers who write about DeSantis to register with state, school prayer, more banning LGBTQ+, R’s trying to destroy public education, and Japan found 7000 more islands comes to a close:

"We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship." — George Orwell, 1984

Texas Is Trying to Scrub Abortion From Its Internet. Last week, Texas introduced a bill that would make it illegal for internet service providers to let users access information about how to get abortion pills. The bill, called the Women and Child Safety Act, would also criminalize creating, editing, or hosting a website that helps people seek abortions. If the bill passes, internet service providers (ISPs) will be forced to block websites “operated by or on behalf of an abortion provider or abortion fund.” ISPs would also have to filter any website that helps people who “provide or aid or abet elective abortions” in almost any way, including raising money.

"If You Have To Choose Between Me And The Baby, Save Me" — This Mom's Plea To Her Husband Sheds A Light On The Realities Of Childbirth In America. In the TikTok, which has over 6 million views, she states that the reason is because she doesn't want her current son to grow up without a mom and she doesn't want her husband to have to raise two babies while also grieving her death…Nevertheless, in a Post-Roe world, death is, unfortunately, more of a reality in states that have rolled back reproductive rights. In fact, maternal mortality* rates in the US are currently over three times higher than most other high-income countries.

Florida bill would require bloggers who write about the governor and legislators to register with the state. A Republican state senator in Florida has introduced a bill that, if passed, would require bloggers who write about Gov. Ron DeSantis, his cabinet or state legislators to register with the state. Sen. Jason Brodeur's bill, entitled "Information Dissemination," would also require bloggers to disclose who's paying them for their posts on certain elected officials, and how much. -- Fascism rises further in Florida. Will the people of Florida stop it, or is it already too late?

What's next for the Southern Baptist Convention after it ousted 5 woman-led churches? Leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in the U.S., recently ousted five churches across the U.S. because they allow women to serve as pastors — including Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., one of the convention's largest member churches. The SBC's policies state, "While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture." -- Fucking patriarchal, authoritarian bullshit.

Prefiled bill aims to protect student-led school prayer, could face challenges if it passes. One Alabama lawmaker filed a bill requiring local school boards to provide school resources to students to facilitate prayer. House Bill 35 says school boards must let students leading prayers use resources, like the PA system for instance, to communicate the prayer to the audience. “This isn’t limiting anyone,” said Alabama Citizens Action Program President Greg Davis. “This is actually freeing people up to practice religion. Again, First Amendment rights. You don’t give those up because you’re at a public location.” -- People who use religion as a weapon always try to cram their bullshit down everyone else’s throats, yet claim oppression when opposition arises to meet their bullshit.

As Tennessee, others target drag shows, many wonder: Why? Across the country, conservative activists and politicians complain that drag contributes to the “sexualization” or “grooming” of children. Several states are considering restrictions, but none has acted as fast as Tennessee. The efforts seek to extinguish popular “ drag story hours ” at which queens read to kids. Organizers of LGBTQ Pride events say they put a chill on their parades. And advocates note that the bills, pushed largely by Republicans, burden businesses in an un-Republican fashion. The protestations have arisen fairly suddenly around a form of entertainment that has long had a place on the mainstream American stage.

Missouri debates ban on LGBTQ education for all grades. The bill's sponsor said that under her proposal, teachers would likely be banned from explaining the 2015 Supreme Court ruling that legalized gay marriage.

#BoycottHersheys spreads on Twitter over Women’s Day campaign. Calls to boycott Hershey are spreading on Twitter in response to the chocolate company’s International Women’s Day Canadian campaign, which includes a trans woman. -- When will this panicking nightmare over LGBTQ+ humans end? Fucking Republicans. So full of hatred toward others.

Viral kids' star Ms. Rachel is taking a break from social media after backlash over co-star who uses they/them pronouns. TikTok creator and teacher Rachel Griffin Accurso, known online as Ms. Rachel, said she is temporarily stepping away from social media for her mental health. — Just so many horrible people. Why care what somebody wants to be called? It literally doesn’t affect you at fucking all.

Maui hate crime case spotlights Hawaii’s racial complexity. In a case that reflects Hawaii’s nuanced and complicated relationship with race, two Native Hawaiian men are scheduled to be sentenced Thursday for a federal hate crime in the brutal beating of a white man who tried to move into their remote, traditional fishing village…Local lawyers believe this is the first time the U.S. has prosecuted Native Hawaiians for hate crimes. The unique case highlights the struggles between Native Hawaiians who are adamant about not having their culture erased and people who move to Hawaii without knowing or considering its history and racial dynamics.

CO2 emissions may be starting to plateau, says global energy watchdog. CO2 from energy – by far the biggest source of emissions – increased by less than 1% in 2022. This was despite the turmoil in energy the markets caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The rise is smaller than the 6% increase in emissions from energy recorded by the IEA in 2021, a leap that came on the back of the rebound from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Parents would have new power over their kids' education under House GOP bill. According to a breakdown of the bill from Rep. Julia Letlow, R-La., school districts would be publicly required to post curriculum information, provide parents with a copy of revisions to state education standards, provide parents with the list of books and reading materials available in the library and more. — Republicans are literally trying to destroy public education. It’s been their goal for decades, and it’s getting closer to reality. Gotta increase the gap between the haves and the have-nots.

California couple sues fertility clinic over embryo carrying cancer gene. A Southern California couple is suing a fertility clinic for fraudulent concealment claiming they mistakenly transferred an embryo carrying a rare stomach cancer gene and then falsified patient records to cover up the error.

Gunmen threaten Messi, shoot up family-owned supermarket. Police said two men on a motorcycle fired at least a dozen shots into an Unico branch in the early hours, leaving a message on carboard that read, “Messi, we’re waiting for you. Javkin is also a drug trafficker, so he won’t take care of you.”

Japan just found 7,000 islands it didn’t know it had. Digital mapping by the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI) recently found there to be 14,125 islands in Japanese territory, more than double the figure of 6,852 that has been in official use since a 1987 report by Japan’s Coast Guard.

Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.

Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
