And another day of more docs, a FL bill to eliminate the Democratic Party, DeSantis promising to control Disney’s content, ‘talking in code’ about abortion in TX, insulin prices, toilet paper, stomach infections, and a tool for teens to remove explicit images comes to a close:

“DeSantis is incredibly dangerous, but part of his danger is that he is managing to grab and hold on to the spotlight, so we're watching Florida descend into fascism in real time and ignoring all the other states using him as cover.” — Thomas Lecaque

“I'll say it again and again: The evidence being uncovered in the Dominion case shows that Fox News is not at its core a news network. News orgs tell the truth to viewers. These documents show that Fox knew the truth, but peddled election lies to its audience.” — Oliver Darcy

Fox lawsuit docs show Murdoch acknowledged several hosts backed Trump’s fraud claims. “In fact, you are now aware that Fox endorsed at times this false notion of a stolen election?” one of Dominion’s lawyers asked Murdoch during his deposition, the court filing shows. “Not Fox, No. Not Fox. But maybe Lou Dobbs, maybe Maria, as commentators,” Murdoch replied. “Some of our commentators were endorsing it,” the media tycoon added, when pressed again if the hosts endorsed Trump’s claims of a fraudulent election. “Yes. They endorsed.”

“Fox News: Seriously, we lied to you. We make billions by jacking up your anger dopamine, so we trained you to distrust everything and hate your country.

Viewers: We don’t believe you.” — Smite

“Fox has just been thoroughly discredited by the testimony, email, and texts of its top executives, hosts, and reporters. Yet Republicans (like Speaker McCarthy) and conservatives act as if nothing happened. They are reality deniers living in a world of disinformation and lies.” — David Corn

New bill would eliminate Florida Democratic Party. Under the Bill, registered Democrats would be automatically re-registered as having "no party affiliation."…"For years now, leftist activists have been trying to "cancel" people and companies for things they have said or done in the past. This includes the removal of statues and memorials, and the renaming of buildings. Using this standard, it would be hypocritical not to cancel the Democrat Party itself for the same reason," explained Sen. Ingoglia. — Can’t make this shit up. The GOP is a fascist party hellbent on eliminating any and all opposition.

DeSantis Promises Florida Will Control Disney’s Content. It is worth pausing a moment to grasp the full breadth of what is going on here. First, DeSantis established the principle that he can and will use the power of the state to punish private firms that exercise their First Amendment right to criticize his positions. Now he is promising to continue exerting state power to pressure the firm to produce content that comports with his own ideological agenda…Second, DeSantis’s authoritarian methods have met with vanishingly little resistance within his party. The only detectable Republican pushback has come from New Hampshire governor Chris Sununu, who warned, “Look, Ron’s a very good governor. But I’m just trying to remind folks what we are at our core. And if we’re trying to beat the Democrats at being big-government authoritarians, remember what’s going to happen. Eventually, they’ll have power … and then they’ll start penalizing conservative businesses and conservative nonprofits and conservative ideas.” (Of course, this warning holds only if Republicans believe they will have to relinquish power. If DeSantis can truly follow the example of Viktor Orbán, losing power becomes only a theoretical risk.) And third, DeSantis has been very explicit about his belief that he sees his methods in Florida as a blueprint for a national agenda. So there is every reason to believe that, if elected president, DeSantis would use government power to force both public and private institutions to toe his line. Speaking out against him, or even producing content he disapproves of, would become a financially risky proposition.

3 abortion bans in Texas leave doctors 'talking in code' to pregnant patients. There are, in fact, three laws against abortion in Texas, explains Sepper. "We have the trigger ban that was recently enacted and comes along with up to life imprisonment for violation," she says. "We have possibly the pre-Roe ban, which Texas officials are arguing is still in effect, and applies both to performance of an abortion and to providing the instrumentality or the means of an abortion. And then we have SB8 as a civil backstop, which prohibits aiding and abetting abortions."…He sees very little political appetite for bringing abortion up again among Republicans lawmakers in the state, because Texas Republicans did well in the last election even after Roe v. Wade was overturned and the state's abortion restrictions took effect. "I think Republican legislators realize, 'We passed these bills into law, we weren't punished at the ballot box,'" he says. "So what is the incentive to do anything different?"

The Supreme Court’s Big Algorithm Fail. Last Tuesday, as the Supreme Court began hearing oral arguments in key cases that could shape the future of the internet, it quickly became clear that some important information was missing. No one seemed able to explain how the algorithms that underlie the Internet actually function.

Mississippi enacts ban on gender-affirming care for minors. Mississippi Republican Gov. Tate Reeves signed a bill Tuesday to ban gender-affirming hormones or surgery in the state for anyone younger than 18, part of a broad effort in conservative states to restrict transgender athletes, gender-affirming care and drag shows.

Girls high school basketball team forfeits tournament rather than play against transgender player. Mid Vermont Christian School (MVCS) was set to play Long Trail School on February 21, but MVCS forfeited the game due to a transgender player on Long Trail’s roster, according to the head of school at MVCS, Vicky Fogg.

Lilly plans to slash some insulin prices, expand cost cap. Eli Lilly will cut prices for some older insulins later this year and immediately expand a cap on costs insured patients pay to fill prescriptions…Lilly CEO David Ricks said in a statement that it will take time for insurers and the pharmacy system to implement its price cuts, so the drugmaker will immediately cap monthly out-of-pocket costs at $35 for people who are not covered by Medicare’s prescription drug program.

Toilet paper is an unexpected source of potentially harmful "forever chemicals" in wastewater across the globe and could be leaching into soils via sewage, a new study on Wednesday said.

The CDC Warns of an Increase in Antibiotic-Resistant Stomach Infections. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are warning public health officials about a significant uptick in stomach infections caused by an antibiotic-resistant strain of bacteria. On Friday, the CDC issued an advisory, saying that they’re monitoring an increase in cases of shigellosis, an illness that can cause diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps.

11 minutes of daily exercise could have a positive impact on your health, large study shows. When you can’t fit your entire workout into a busy day, do you think there’s no point in doing anything at all? You should rethink that mindset. Just 11 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous intensity aerobic activity per day could lower your risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease or premature death, a large new study has found. Aerobic activities include walking, dancing, running, jogging, cycling and swimming. You can gauge the intensity level of an activity by your heart rate and how hard you’re breathing as you move. Generally, being able to talk but not sing during an activity would make it moderate intensity. Vigorous intensity is marked by the inability to carry on a conversation.

‘Take It Down’: A tool for teens to remove explicit images. A new online tool aims to give some control back to teens, or people who were once teens, and take down explicit images and videos of themselves from the internet.

TikTok banned on all Canadian government mobile devices. Canada announced Monday it is banning TikTok from all government-issued mobile devices, reflecting widening worries from Western officials over the Chinese-owned video sharing app.

This tech company has a daily message for employees: ‘Please go home!’. The message comes up on employees’ computers shortly before the end of their shifts, starting with a bright red “Warning!!!” “Your shift time is over,” it reads. “The office system will shut down in 10 mins. PLEASE GO HOME!”

It's Official: More Ads Are Coming to Apple TV+. Once, being an Apple user meant you could enjoy a platform built for the user experience above all else. Steve Jobs famously said his goal for Apple products was to make “the buttons on the screen look so good you’ll want to lick them.” Part of that ethos: “No ads,” Jobs said. “We build products that we want for ourselves, too, and we just don’t want ads.” Well, bright-eyed CEOs pass on, and things change in their absence. Ads are inherently intrusive. They have to be if they’re going to work. They’re also lucrative. That’s a sacrifice the company is increasingly willing to make.

Life’s short. Live, love, create, and help others.

Until next time, my friends. Stay safe and stay sane. Good night.
